'Shall we open it?' Heather held the envelope in her hands. It was sealed with her family's crest and seemed to cause her more stress than relief.
'No, we're going to wait for dragon's to come and sing,' Astor mocked. 'Of course we should open it!'
'Don't rush her. We're all nervous, Mr. Hemingway.'
'Astor.'
'Astor.' Evelynn said reluctantly, sitting up in bed.
'I can't.' Heather huffed and handed it to Astor. 'You open it.'
'All right, all right. I don't see what's so difficult,' he broke the seal. 'What on earth—?'
'What? What is it?' Heather snatched the letter from him. 'Yes,' she whispered. 'Yes, yes, yes!' She hugged him. 'Thank you!'
'Is it Astor then?' Evelynn asked as they pulled away.
'No.' They said in unison.
'Heather?'
'No,' Heather's smile widened. 'All hail queen Evelynn Carlton!' She mocked a bow.
'No?'
'Yes!'
'But how?'
'Him!'
'You asked them to—'
'Yes,' Astor nodded. 'Calm down, Heather. A heart attack won't prove useful to anyone,' he chuckled. 'Do you accept?' He turned to Evelynn.
'Well, I—' she looked at her sister and the man who was once a stranger, now one of Heather's closest friends. 'Yes,' she said. 'Yes.'
'Magnificent!' Heather brought her hands together. 'Oh, I've got to tell Alya,' she left the room for her own. 'Don't start planning your coronation without me!'
'She's excited.' Evelynn's face softened.
'For good reason,' Astor said. 'You're going to be a great queen you know. Better than any of us.'
'Why me? You could have taken the throne, made your parents happy. Why go for a girl you barely know?'
'Heather deserves credit. For our deadly endeavours and being an heir. Having you as queen ensures that our kingdom has a great ruler and she gets some glory,' he explained. 'Even if she doesn't ask for it.'
'I still don't understand why my sister calls you a halfwit,' she furrowed her brows. 'You're as brilliant as she is.'
'Perhaps she thinks I'm competition,' he chuckled. 'Whatever the case, I'm sure she has a good reason. Well, come on then. Let's celebrate shall we?'
