Does anyone else feel like "unique" qualities are a signal for a boring person? Like, I see more and more people whipping up these aesthetic qualities about themselves to be ~cool and/or unique~ and it kind of makes them boring IMO. Maybe I just feel this way because I was a kid with an incredibly heightened identity complex who could never figure out who they were and to cope would try to transform myself into an amalgamation of images I idolized. It ended up making me feel cheap, fake, and incredibly disingenuous, and probably even made my identity issues worse.
To be fair, trends have always been a thing. But the whole aLt TiK tOk obsession with carving out the perfect subversive appearance is really annoying to me. It's not just about crafting an image of yourself you're comfortable with because it gets you attention and validation. Even though I don't like it, people have done it forever.
