The girls froze again, but this time in shock. Emma looked as pale as a ghost, although the Ghost-Thing in front of her wasn't very pale. Her eyes were full of cruelty, and a thin smirk was upon her lips.
"Well, aren't you glad," she said, "Now you know your dear grandmother a little bit better!" she said, quite happily, despite the circumstances. "What do you want?!" Mia shrieked suddenly "Please, leave us alone! We haven't done anything to you!" "Ah, but your friend's grandmummy has." "Mia," Emma said "You just go! I'll deal with her alone." Mia glanced at her friend, who gave her a re-affirming nod. She left quickly and disappeared behind a bookshelf. Emma was slightly hurt because Mia did not look very reluctant to leave her best friend alone in a dangerous situation, like in most clichés, but there seemed to be more pressing matters at the moment. The Ghost-Thing seemed to be able to read her mind. "What a nice friend, am I right, darling?" Emma stepped back, despising the creature with every word that came out of her mouth.
"What do you want?!" Emma asked. "Nice question. But I'm sure you would like to know why I am here." "I just asked you that!""You kids should keep your mouth shut when you're not needed.""I'm 15..." Emma thought to herself."Anyway, kid," She seemed to stress the word on purpose. "I meant why I am here and not some other brat. There is a reason why you got that letter now. It is because I found you now. I gave that letter to you to enlighten you. Why did I do all of that? Can your tiny little brain possibly comprehend all this?"
And then it hit Emma.
All this time!! The Ghost-Thing was Charlotte Winter!!!
"You- you're Charlotte!"
"Well done, kid, well done."
"So... you are, like.. my grandmother's long lost best friend?
"Charlotte winced and coughed. "Was," she said, in bitter tones
"Yeah, Grandma died"
"Not because of that you idiot!I stopped being her friend ever since the- the-" Her expression changed completely. It was now one full of loathing and anger. "Incident"
"Huh?" Emma was proving to be dumber than Charlotte had expected.
"Ugh, do I have to explain everything to you?" She didn't wait for a reply, but instead continued, "THE INCIDENT WHERE YOUR GRANDMA K-K-KISSED ROBERT!!"
Suddenly, the pieces clicked in Emma's mind. "You liked him! You liked my grandfather! You were jealous of Grandma!""Yes, kid, and now, I shall take REVENGE!"
Emma stared in shock.
No. Way.
Charlotte The Ghost-Thing advanced towards Emma with a crazy look in her eyes. Emma took a few steps back. Then she started running. And you better assume that Charlotte didn't hesitate to follow suit.
