Prologue
The baby’s plum purple eye looked into her mother’s, and there was no mistaking that she had inherited the power. The other eye was a beautiful (e/c) eye, and the baby’s mother smiled.
Just like her father. She thought, as she hugged her baby close. My end will be soon... Way before you'll be old enough to remember me... Her smile turned sad, but the baby was oblivious to that. She only smiled that pure smile…
I’m sorry… But I won’t be there… Fat tears cascaded down the mother’s face, and she made no move to wipe it away.
But grow up strong, my dear…
Because you’ll save them all…
The baby only smiled back in response.

“Run!” she yelled. It was two years after the baby was born, when she went on her third expedition. She was a medic for the Survey Corps, and her husband was a Squad Leader. Her husband looked at her with wide eyes, wondering if he was just dreaming.
He commanded his horse to go back. But, to his surprise, it went the other way. It never disobeyed his orders, so why then? It was like magic, as if what she yelled was directed to him, but also to the horse…
He would never know.
~~
Her (e/c) and plum eyes glint in excitement. She is learning how to fly in 3DMG, and it’s not exaggerating to say that she’s better than some people who had been in the Survey Corps for years. Her movements are fluid, it almost looks like she’s done it a million times before.
She smiles, and she yells “Yahoo!” just like the eight year old she is. Her father just watches in the sidelines, proud and surprised. Her eyes meet his, and she grins mischievously before she does a flip and lands on the ground without a sound.
She’s a natural.
~~
She’s listening to Hanji, whom she calls “Auntie Hanji,” about the titan experiments. Hanji’s hand are flying all over the place as she explains the results. She’s the only one nice crazy enough to talk about Titans with Hanji, and Hanji’s glad that she could talk about it without people groaning.
She’s talking to Levi, and the way she talks and uses all parts of her body to explain makes Levi smile. She’s the only one who can really make him truly smile (unless they’re with others). She somehow knows about his losses, probably because of her father, and never had judged him, ever. She somehow knows how he feels about being in charge of many things.
She’s revising Erwin’s plans for the next expedition, and Erwin smiles at her intelligence and perception. She’s so young, yet so smart, if she was older, she would’ve been Commander. Her brows would be knitted together in concentration, and her eyes would be looking past everything whenever she’s thinking deeply. And when she comes up with a better idea or revision, her eyes would focus on Erwin's, sparkling with excitement, and she would tell him about the “idea.” Whenever he approved, she would jump around on the sofa happily. And if he politely rejected it, she would work all day long to figure out a better solution. She would really make a great soldier.
She’s sitting in her father’s laps, listening to a hummed lullaby. It was the one that her mother always sang to her whenever there was free time, and their favorite. They’re inseparable, always supporting each other since her mother's death. Despite how young she is, she’s like a wall to her father, the wall that blocks the sadness, as is her father to her. Even with her mother gone, they’re pretty happy, as long as they have each other’s backs.
She’s like the mascot of the Survey Corps, and all adore her. They are like her family, filling in for her mother, who died when she was two, and she greatly appreciates it. She can make anyone laugh with her naive mind, and she could make anyone’s day with a simple “hello!” and a cute smile.
~~
It was a tragedy. Her father, her only blood-related family, died during the invasion of Wall Maria. He died fighting titans. He had lured the titans from the citizens, and more than thirty titans were on his trail when he got snatched by an aberrant.
When they told her the tragic news, she just stood there, doing nothing for minutes that felt like hours, and didn’t listen to Hanji, didn’t talk to Levi, didn’t revise plans with Erwin, didn’t come out of her room for three days. When Erwin, Levi, and Hanji finally convinced her to open the door, they found her lying down on her bed, face down, as if to breathe in your father’s scent.
When she lifted her face, Hanji gasped, Erwin looked away, and Levi’s eyes grew wide. (Y/n), the carefree, cheerful one, was not only crying, but she was choking on her own tears, and tears dampened the sheets. Her smooth, beautiful (h/c) hair didn't look like hers at all, and it spread over the sheets. Her face was the one of immense pain, and she blinked her eyes rapidly, as if to remember her father’s face and voice. Her once vibrant eyes have seemed to have lost their color, and her pale skin made her look like she was the dead one, and she sank her face back into the bed as soon as she lifted it.
It took weeks for her to be back to her normal, cheerful self, and they promised her that they would fill in for her dad as they did for her mom...
And she was so grateful.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
