best man

it's been a few months since I moved to new york and I've become good friends with charlie, ava, and drew.

Ava called me up today for lunch at some place to discuss wedding plans for her and charlie.

the wedding? it's in four months.

I've learned that ava is a pro at procrastinating so this is why she hasn't planned much for the wedding.

I left my apartment after a call from my angry mom, who was complaining that I'm still single.

I slung my brown leather jacket over my shoulder as I went down the stairs since the elevator broke because of some scientists, I think.

I was outside, the cool fall air ruffling my hair.

before I could walk any further out, a black Prius rolled up to me, the windows sliding down.

"AYE, GET IN THE CAR!" the driver yelled.

I opened the door to the shotgun side. "nice way of greeting me, ava soon-to-be krummel."

ava grinned with her light pink lips and began driving before I could even put on my seat belt.

"whoaaaa!"

"sorry I just have some news and I'm really excited to tell you," ava said.

"and what's that?" I asked.

"it's a surprise, stupid," ava snorted.

"I don't so well with surprises, you know-" i grumbled.

"I don't care it's gonna be one."

---------------------------------------------

well, we finally got to the restaurant and I received news that kinda made me want to kill myself but-

"I want you to be the best man for the wedding."

no you're kidding.

wait what.

she isn't procrastinating anymore, this is bad.

and all I could do is put on a fake smile.

"I can't believe it!" I lied, hoping to sound as honest as possible.

"I know right! I've already got the outfit planned out-" ava said, pulling out a picture of a black tux with a grey coloured tie.

"nice... uh, that's good," I said.

Ava jumped in her seat. "I know right!"

"so, have you decided the wedding date yet?" I asked, pain shooting though my body but I tried to not look pained.

"my birthday," ava said. "I know, the best day for a wedding!"

unless I stand up- no dan, what the heck are you doing? she's your friend, let her be happy!

"perfect date for a wedding," I lied, giving ava the 'ok' sign.

talking about the wedding was painful for me 'cause i felt that ava deserved someone better... not that charlie isn't a great guy... he's just better with drew.

that was until a girl walked into the room.

she had wavy brown hair and tan skin; she could be a model if she wasn't one already.

"and then when the cue comes, you- daniel, are you even listening to me-" ava whined.

"shhhh... i think i found a girl," i whispered, squirming in my seat, just wanting to talk to her (and fail).
