You assure your trembling self that it's probably a mannequin arm from Himeko's son's boutique downtown. With a careful finger, you gently poke and prod the arm. The silicone is a tad too life-like and supple for your taste, and you gulp down air as you retract your arm slowly.
The silicone arm twitches into animation to the tune of your sudden screaming for help, and lifts up its palm with its fingers. It writhes and latches onto your wrist as you try to pull it back and wrenches you onto your stomach from your knees. Your jaw smacks into the ground and your body gets dragged across the forest floor.
What you didn't know was the correct way to greet the Verdish creature of the forest. It was called the Arm of Morde and was placed as a divine anti-theft measure to prevent the desecration of newly buried bodies. Your car had crashed into one such grave, tripped the ancient alarms and awaken an Arm of Morde that was guarding said grave. Way to go, you, you had crashed into the burial site of some ultra-rich Verdish noble. Hurray! Had you dug up the ornaments the noble was buried with and sold them, you could've paid off your debt with the money you received.
You should've done a two-finger salute, and waited for the arm to crawl out of the debris and into the open. Once it was outside you should've thanked it for guarding the grave and bid it goodbye. Unfortunately, you had done what most people would've done when faced with that thing, you had touched it.
As you find yourself being dragged down a dreary rabbit hole, right into Kytix's territory of the underworld, you ponder on the situation. Had the goddess actually given you a choice or a path out of your debt? Or was it just another one of her divine trickery to get you to pay, with your life no less.
There's a reason why four is a number of death in many cultures, the reason being its similarly in pronounciation to the word used for death.
To your arm, which becomes the new Arm of Morde guarding the noble's grave, however, it becomes all the more evident.
