~Delilah~

Kennedy ran off and Toby followed her. Everyones’ eyes were on me. Some kids started whispering to each other and glaring at me. My eyes darted back and forth, as the feeling that I was some sort of zoo exhibit overwhelmed me.

“I-I-” I caught Nate’s eye. Tears threatened to overflow as I rapidly blinked.  Cody was on the other side of campfire with disapproval and astonishment written all over his face, while the populars rolled their eyes.

“I’m sorry!” I announced quickly before running off.

Tree branches whipped my face, but I continued sprinting through the woods. My lungs began to burn and my legs ached. But I kept running. Suddenly I tripped over a tree root and was sent flying through the air. A jolt was sent through my body when I hit the ground. I hugged my knees and leaned against a tree. Tears ran rapidly down my checks.

I am officially the worst friend ever. Not only did I lie, but I kissed her best boy friend. I should’ve just told her. God, I screw everything up. All of the sudden I heard footsteps coming towards me. I swiftly wiped away my tears just as the footstep dude sat down next to me.

“Are you alright?”

“I’m fine,” I snapped.

“Why are you lying?”

“Why are you here?” I fired back.

“I just wanted to make sure you were okay,” Zayn’s dark brown eyes stared intently at me.

“Well I”m fine so you can take your nose and stick it in someone else’s business.”

“You’re clearly not fine, Delilah,” his voice was quiet and his face was a mere 2 inches away from mine. I had to resist the urge to slap it.

“Well what got shared back at the campfire wasn’t exactly public information.”

“What was all that about, anyways?”

“I thought I told you to go away.”

“You can’t fool me. You put on this tough girl act, but in reality you’re dying inside. You’re a marshmallow disguised as a cactus.”

“Oh you’re one to talk. Early today you were telling me how I was so perfect and you couldn’t stand me. Now you’re telling me that I’m some sort of emotional wreck and that you just want to ‘help me’. Well you’re not fooling me, whatever you want you can get from someone else. I’m not some damsel in distress that will come running into your arms. ‘Zayn,

oh Zayn,’” I squealed in a high pitched voice, flailing my arms around, “‘Save me Zayn!’ Nice try.”

Zayn just looked horrified. Then amused. All of the sudden, his face got  really serious. He moved his face to my ear. I could feel his breath on my cheek.

“You’re dying to come running into my arms,” he whispered.

“Oh you wish.” I whispered back. Our faces were inches away as we both glared at each other.

“Delilah?”

I whipped my head around.

“Oh, hi Nate.” I sighed.

“What are you doing with Zack?”

“It’s Zayn,” Zayn replied with an eye roll.

“Oh.”

“And Zayn was just leaving,” I announced, shoving him.

He rolled his eyes again before walking away.
