A/N: This was inspired by a short piece written by Tumblr user raaindrops!

You are standing outside in the rain.

It's cold, and you only grabbed a light jacket before coming outside, but that somehow makes it better. A shiver runs through you as the drops land gently on your face and neck. You hold a hand out, palm up to the sky. Raindrops land compliantly in your hand. It almost tickles.

The air is filled with the smell that accompanies childhood memories of picking worms off the sidewalk and throwing them into the grass. You can feel your breaths getting softer, deeper, easier.

It's dim outside. Soft, gray storm clouds block out the intensity of the sun's light. If it were possible, you would prefer the weather to be like this all the time. Dull light and moisture and pleasant smells. It comforts you. If you weren't so enamored with the idea of standing outside under the rain, you would be taking full advantage of the weather inside. Now would be an opportune moment to have one hand wrapped around a warm mug, and the other around a good book. There's that one you've been meaning to get to lately. It's been sitting neglected on your nightstand for weeks.

The idea almost stirs you from your spot at the end of the driveway, but a voice in your head tells you, Not yet. You get so few opportunities to stand in the beautiful rain like this. You should take advantage of it for just a few moments longer. The book will be there waiting for you when you're done.
