ch. 4 Jay
We're on the road back to the warehouse, and I keep stealing glances at Tessa. She appears to be fine now, and I can't help but be glad that she got the headache. I don't think she knows I saw her flip that sign, and who could balance a cake on the brink of falling without moving a muscle? She's been under the radar a long time, purposely or not, and now it was time to bring her in.
I can't help but wonder if maybe I should take her now, she's obviously weak, and I have a car, all I'd have to do was knock her out and drive away. I'm seriously considering this idea when I realize that I'd leave Wynn alone with no way of contacting him. He'd eventually get a hold of me, but it would be too much of a hassel to leave him behind. I also barely know the girl and I could simply be underestimating her.
But still I don't want to waste this opportuinity, I know the type of headache she just had. They last for hours, and any little thing can set them off again, and if I can set one off she'll be to weak to fight us back. I eventually come to the conclusion that the best time to take her would be tonight. During the party Wynn can slip out and make the call to Avery and then the cops. I'll cover for him at the party and I'll try to cause one of these headaches again. Then once the cops come with all the commotion we can just take her and go in the van Avery and Marissa would have dropped off.
I take a peek at Tessa and it's obvious her headache hasn't entirely vanished and she's leaning her head against the window. I pull into the alley and park in the little secret hidden parking space. I pull out the keys and throw them into the glove compartment just as Tessa gets out with the cake.
I hop out just in time to see her stumble a little before righting herself up again. She's definetly not used to these. we make our way back inside and everyone greets us with some hollering and shouting. We walk the cake over to Mary, where she's sitting at a table drinking water. Tessa carefully puts the cake on the table and marry opens it up. She carefully lifts up the cake and places it on the table.
The cake was extremely pretty. It had an ombre effect of a light pink going to a dark purple. There was a princess castle and written in an elegant white frosting was, Happy Birthday Mairead. Everyone gathers around trying to catch a peek but Mary quickly shoos them away telling us to get ready for the party since it starts in an hour. Everyone then rushes off chattering about their new clothes and the food they can't wait to eat.
Out of the corner of my eye I see Tessa take a sip of water her hand shaking from exhaustion. Slowly she sets it down and and bows her head. I watch bewildered when just after ten seconds she stands up straight and tall, and strides over to her area behind the sheets. But even though she's gone I stay planted in my spot thinking about what just happened. There's no way she coud've gotten rid of her headache, she must be faking it. I'm still in my train of thought when I see wynn come up to me.
"Hey" he greets, "did you find out anything?"
"She's the one" I nod
"oh man that's so great, but I thought you always say that Mayra was the one for you?" he replied
" no stupid" I exclaim "I mean shes the one we came here to get" I turn to look at wynn to see if he now understands but from the look of the impish grin on his face I can tell he knew what I meant from the very beginning.
