I grabbed my new time travel suit, and put it on over my old SHIELD suit. I fit well, but I wasn't going to wear it for long. It isn't going to be my favorite thing I would have to do, but it should work.
I can't help but feel scared. This is my first mission in a while, and probably the most important one I have done yet. But I keep trying to run the same thoughts in my head.
'It's not going to work.' 'Don't get your hopes up.' 'Everything will be okay when it won't work.' 'Life will get better.'
I was ready, and I walked to Natasha's room, seeing her just sitting on her bed. "Hey sis," I say, leaning against the doorway. She looks up to me, smiling lightly, then looks down at the floor.
I walked over and sat next to her on the bed. "Nervous?" I ask.
"Nope," she says, obviously trying to be brave. "You?"
"Nope," I say, copying her. "Now can we be real with each other?"
She chuckles lightly, and nods her head. "I just don't want to mess it up, you know? So many people deserve to live the rest of their lives," she says, starting to tear up slightly.
"I know we haven't spoken in a while, but I never thought that something would make you emotional," I say, not used to sharing feelings with her. She chuckles softly, elbowing me. "I just keep telling myself it's not going to work, so I won't get hurt in the end when it doesn't." I started tearing up.
"We're not going to fail. We won't give up if we do," she says. "Come on, let's go time travel. That's a sentence I thought I would never say."
"Honestly nothing surprises me anymore," I say, as we both get up and head to the quantum machine. We met up with everyone, and got onto the platform. I was standing in between Steve and Natasha and Steve started his classic speeches.
"Five years ago, we lost. All of us. We lost friends, we lost family. We lost a part of ourselves. Today, we have a chance to take it all back. You know your teams, you know your missions. Get the stones, get them back. One round trip each, no mistakes, no do-overs."
"Most of us are going somewhere we know. But it doesn't mean we should know what to expect. Be careful. Look out for each other. THis is the fight of our lives. And we're gonna win," Steve continues. "Whatever it takes, good luck."
"Alright you heard the man. Stroke those keys, jolly green," Tony says, talking to Bruce. Bruce starts to type, starting up the machine.
"Tractors engaged," Bruce says, walking up to the platform with us.
"See you in a minute," Natasha says, smiling towards Steve and I. I flip on my helmet, trying to prepare myself for this once in a lifetime experience. I felt my stomach flip and turn, and we were in the quantum universe.
We went through twists and turns, and until we landed on a side street in New York City. It was still in the middle of the battle, and the Chitauri were still roaming the city. Our quantum suits materialized, showing what we were wearing for this mission.
"Alright, we have our assignments. Two Stones uptown, one stone down. Stay low. Keep an eye on the clock," Steve says. We all jumped at the loud noise from behind us, finding 2012 Hulk destroying everything his way.
"Hey, look at Green go," I say, nudging Bruce as he shakes his head in embarrassment.
"Feel free to smash a few things along the way," Steve says.
Bruce then rips off his shirt and says, "I think it's gratuitous, but whatever." He then goes to the street, awkwardly starts kicking things around.
"Alright, y/n, let's go," Steve says, getting on the motorcycle Banner just kicked indicating for me to hop on. I get on behind him, wrapping my arms around his torso.
"Let's hope this works," Scott says.
"Well, it was your idea," I say back.
"Right," he says. He becomes tiny, and Tony puts on his IronMan suit, while holding on to Scott.
"Good luck, you two," Tony says, flying away towards the Avengers Building. Steve then starts speeding our way to the building, while I start shooting any Chitauri in our way. We made our way to the front of the building.
"Stay low, don't get caught by Natasha, that could cause a weird interaction," Steve says, hoping off the bike.
"You think?" I say, getting off the bike as well. "You sure the card will work?" I have a SHIELD identification card, under as Alyssa Jackson. What a basic name.
"It should. Stark made it so it could pass SHIELD's radar," Steve says. We walked up to the building, and I saw Tony flying above us. "Alright, let's do this."
