It's now Monday, we're doing duets today and Alex tells us she will partner us up. She starts reading out names and then I hear my name. I wait with suspension to see who I get.
"Amber... I want you to work with... Adam. If that's okay with you?" Alex reads from her paper. My heart drops. Am I really going to work with Adam?
Mark mutters, "Unlucky."
I nod and Alex moves on to the rest of the class. My eyes are forced to Adams direction and he is sat away from anyone, slouching. For some reason, he looks extremely attractive. I can see his bulge... but then I remember that he doesn't like sex. I look up and see that he is staring at me with his eyes squinted. I smile and he just keeps the same emotion. After Alex reads all the duets, she tells us to take a script and to find a place where we can rehearse. Slowly, I make my way to the sheets and grab myself and Adam one each, just to be nice. I then strut over to him, who is still slouching on a chair. The class begins to go muffled as I reach him. I take a deep breath and I push my hand out to pass him his script. He looks at the script and then at me with disgust. He opens his mouth and rudely says, "I have legs."
I sigh, "I know, I was just being nice."
"Don't."
"Are you going to take this or not?"
"Not."
I roll my eyes "Why not?"
"Stop asking questions and sit next to me, now!" He demands and I get butterflies. No. I don't want to fancy this prick. I scoff and sit next to him.
"What now?" I question.
"I said stop asking questions."
"How can I not ask questions? That's like impossible."
"I haven't done it this whole conversation. So, it's clearly possible."
"Whatever."
I feel Adams warm arm radiate against my skin as he grabs a script out of my hand. He quickly scans the script, flicking through the pages. "That was shit."
"Really? But you hardly read it."
"I'm fast."
"Well, we have to do it. It's part of the task."
"No."
"What do you mean no?"
"Questions are annoying."
"Adam, I'm going to keep asking questions. End of. You can too. Why can't we?" I shout.
He produces a one beat laugh, "Fine."
"Is that it? Fine?"
"Fine."
"You think you're so clever, don't you?"
"Yeah."
"Well, you're not."
"Cool."
"Ugh, I actually stuck up for you last week. I wish I didn't."
"I don't care."
"You are a knobhead. Mark was right."
"Mark bullies disabled people."
"What?"
"I saw him."
"When?"
"Let's go somewhere more private."
"Now?"
"Yeah. Let's leave."
"No. Adam, this is my second week. I can't just leave."
