One of the greatest honors in the ocean tribe is the test of man, every young person has to go through this trial when they come of age. All elders oversee the trials and with the gods guidance each young person is labeled with a symbol of the gods. A representation of who they are and what qualities shine the most in them. There are many gods that the people worship but only 4 are the 'Originals' who made all that is seen. The god of light Hoseok, the king of kings, the god of gods. Yoongi, the god of war, proud, mighty and strong. Jisoo goddess of love and fertility. Then Seokjin, the god of wisdom and selflessness, the god of the moon and ocean. Being labeled with any of the original main 4 gods shows how you're a blessing and destined to do great things.
The people gather to the sands of the ocean, the sun just rising on the horizon. Many bow their heads welcoming the god of light back bringing them day. The chief walks out from them, bowing as well to the rising sun.
Looking back out to his people he smiles seeing all the faces excited for what's come today. With the ocean behind him and the sun out the time has come.
"My people of the ocean and earth," his bold voice speaks out, "today we see our youth become men and women, with the guidance of our elders, three trials have been chosen. The trail of mind, the trail of the warrior and then the trail of the sea." Some people gasp hearing of the trail of the sea.
Every year the trails are different, there are many and some easy but some deadly. It is all up to the gods and the elders.
"I announce our youth!" He yells, everyone clapping. "Daughter of Ji-hun and Jiyoung, Ji-ha." The young woman comes out from the crowd and stands by the chief. "Son of Eun and Gon, Baekji." The chief goes on calling 8 others who all stand by him proud and ready for their test of adulthood.
"Now," he pauses looking to the last person to call from the crowd. "My son," he gives Namjoon a fond look. "Namjoon, the future chief of our great people and tribe. I'm sure you all remember I was given the symbol of the sun, the symbol of the god of light. I have high hopes for you, my son."
The people clap and cheer, Namjoon, tall and strong now nods his head and waves to his people as he walks to his father. "I will do my best to make you proud." Namjoon says with confidence and furiosity in his voice.
With all present the elders come from out of the forest. The people keep their backs to the forest and kneel, putting their heads down in respect for their elders. Not just any old person of the tribe can become an elder of the tribe. The elders live in a temple on top of the mountain where the shrines of the gods are. These are people that have dedicated their lives to worship and speaking to the gods and doing their practice.
The chief himself bows to them, the oldest and wisest of them all comes forward to the chief. Despite her old age of 98, the woman still has very firm skin and slim body like that of a middle aged woman. However her eyes are gray and clouded, her teeth yellow and rotting.
"I can sense a very strong group of youngsters this year." She says with her raspy and lost voice. "What troubles me is that your son has the weakest presence here, my chief Kim."
The old woman puts her hand out for the chief to hold, he smiles and takes it gladly landing a single kiss on it before standing.
"Elder Ji, my son may not have an overwhelming presence like I, but he is a smart and strong young man. Has the trust of the people, more so then when I was so young. He is my greatest joy and I am proud to call him my son."
The elder looks in Namjoons direction, she may not see well but a blue and purple hue glows around Namjoon in her eyes.
"I also sense the gods in him, but of whom I still can not see." The wind blows her thin gray hair, the chill making her breathe in its riches and wisdom. "It's time,"
