Today was the day. It was a day of new beginnings, of new recruits. We don't normally get new recruits, but we got special orders from the council.
I was excited for the new recruits. Our world is very different down here. We know more about the world then the average person will ever know. As a veteran, I usually help with the recruiting process, but this time is different. The council has already given us a list of the people who will be recruited. I haven't seen the list. Only the alpha sees the list right now.
The alpha is our leader, our commander, and the one we trust completely. He is not much older then me and his name is Hayes. We don't really get along.
"Are you ready Tana?" he says.
"When have I ever not be ready." I snap back. I given him that devilish grin that I know will get under his skin. He rolls his eyes. Mission accomplished: annoy the boss until he stops trying to control me.
"Well in that case, retrieve these 2 recruits. They shouldn't be too hard to find for you." he smiles and gives me a list with two names on it. "Oh and be gentle, new recruits can be a little fragile." he says and he lifts one eyebrow. Then he walks away.
"I CAN BE GENTLE WHEN I WANT TO!" I yell after him. He knows exactly how to ruffle my feathers. I look down at the names and immediately recognize the names. Now I know why the council did the recruiting process themselves. Memories of my time at St.Paul school flooded in. God, that was an awful time. The names on the list where two of my old classmates and the daughters and sons of the council members. Shit
The human world was so boring. People do the same thing everyday. I could never live in the human world anymore. Like honestly, people these days just grow up to go to work for their whole lives. Where is the adventure in that?
My first recruit across the street at a skate park. I watched him for a while just to waste time. I wanted to be late for the recruitment ceremony just to piss of Hayes. It's so fun to see him mad. The recruit's name is Andrew. I used to go to middle school with him, but that's a whole other story. Alright enough time wasted, I still have to get another recruit tonight.
Andrew's POV
"Dylan you suck at skateboarding, maybe you should try cheerleading!" God he was awful at skateboarding. Just as I yelled at him Dylan fell flat on his back and I laughed so hard.
"Hey Andrew" I spun around and saw my old classmate Tana standing there.
"oh uhh hey Tana, its been so long, how are you?"
"I'm doing pretty good, do you have time to take a walk with me?"
"I mean that's pretty weird, but okay." We walked down a trail as we made small talk. I haven't seen her in ages. What was she doing here?I never got my question answered as next thing I know I black out.
Tana POV
Well that was way easier then expected. He is still a dick. My next recruit was another classmate and went even easier. Both of them were so shocked to see me. I mean whatever but like it would have been nice to have one of them be really excited to see me.
We got back to the base a little over five minutes late. Hayes was going to be so mad, and I kinda excited to see him mad, but I know he will punish me later. I'll probably have to run. If I hate one thing in this world it is running.
I unloaded the recruits with the others who were still unconscious. It is really easy to knock them out and they have to be asleep before we jump back to base.
As I went into the room where the ceremony will happen I could feel a heavy glare burning into my back. Oh Hayes was mad and everyone knew it.
He walked up to me at a very fast pace, but i'm not scared of him and he knows it.
"Who the hell do you think you are?" he said in my face. "You can't just do anything you want. We are on a tight schedule and what would have happened if we needed you for an emergency mission !?"
"I would have been here. I am always here for my team!!" I yelled back. I have never left anyone behind or let my team down. Everyone knew that I had their back.
"Whatever we will talk later, just get ready for the ceremony. We are already behind schedule."
With that I stormed off to get ready.
