Jaxx's POV:
We let the cold water spray over Hank so that he'd sober up a bit, which seemed to work just fine. Hank hazily got to his senses,"Jaxx... Connor... what the fuck are you two doing here?"
"There was another homicide about 20 minutes ago, and we needed to come find you.-"Connor states, looking over to me. "Luckily, Jaxx knew you'd be home at this hour." Hank shifted his eyes to me and I felt a small smile grow upon my face.
The smile wasn't joyful or nervous, more of disappointment in Hank's behalf. I always hated seeing Hank drunk and alone, especially after everything that he's told me while I've been his partner...
"Well I must be the only cop in the world that gets assaulted in his own home by his two fuckin partners..." he was still slurring a bit, somewhat wailing in the bathtub. I huff," Hank, cmon. Do it for me?" I give him my biggest puppy dog eyes and hoped for the best.
I knew even Connor wouldn't even be able to resist my ways of persuasion since it usually goes my way. However, they didn't work this time. I'm surprised as drunk Hank would probably give into it, but he refused.
I sighed and looked away at the wall, thinking of how to get Hank in on going with us. Connor thought for a second and did the same, showing defeat, until he said the most clever but terrible thing ever.
"It probably wouldn't have been that interesting anyway...a man found dead in a sex club downtown. Guess they'll have to solve the case without us..." He turned back to Hank, showing a small smile knowing he'd won.
"Ya know... it'd probably be good for me to get some fresh air." I couldn't believe that THAT just worked. I mean that was clever on Connor's part, but really Hank?!
I rolled my eyes at the situation and Hank asked for me to grabbed some of his clothes, which I agreed to doing. I went across the hallway into Hank's bedroom, Connor following me per usual, and I opened up Hank's closet.
He only had three suits, so this shouldn't be a hard decision.
Or so I thought...
Connor was observing me as I pulled out a suit, put it in-front of him then putting it back. "Hmm... I think he'll look nice in this one," I took out the suit with black and white streaks across it, again holding it up to Connor. He looked down at me as I nodded in agreement to my thoughts, thinking I made the right choice.
I think Connor looks good in this too...
Woah... what the hell was that brain?
I looked up at Connor, still grasping the suit, us locking eyes for a quick second. It felt like we were there for hours just... staring.
"Did you get lost in there or something??" Hank called out, breaking me from that strange connection. "S-Sorry Hank, here you go!" I walked passed Connor to the bathroom to hand Hank his clothes. He took them then shut the door, making Sumo saunter over from his spot in the living room.
"Hey Sumo buddy," I crouched down to pet him right behind his ears, smiling as he started happily wagging his tail. Connor bent down to pet Sumo then went over to Hank's record player.
He picked up a lonely vinyl and scanned the cover of it. I walked over and stood close to him to read what vinyl he picked up. It turned out to be 'autumn blues', one of my favorites from Hank's collection. ( I personally don't like Jazz but I do like some of it :] ). I pointed to the vinyl," ya know I have a player at my place, but I don't really listen to Jazz that often."
"I did notice that night I took you home that you do indeed have a lot of vinyls. Although, most of them are Elton John, correct?" He looked down at me in an unsure way, awaiting my verdict on if he was indeed correct. I nodded with a smile, Connor putting down the vinyl to concentrate on me as I spoke again.
"You know what's nice though? Hank actually got me into vinyls... I had only heard of them when I was younger, only a very few times actually seeing one play music, but I was so excited to finally get one of my own. Hank even showed me some old... cassettes he had and played some silly country music on his player for it." I turned to him, crossing my arms in disbelief. "Did you know that cassettes were unpopular in 2003?! And damn vinyls were MADE in the 1900s!! I went nearly all of my life without knowing these amazing things existed!"
At this point I was slightly shaking Connor by the shoulders with how enthused I was over the music players. Connor continued to keep eyes on me as I told my small story on music. "I just can't even fathom not living with this older tech now. I mean, imagine what people before now were doing to have fun and just be goofy." I look up at him with concern," I just feel like there's no room for fun anymore in the year we live in..." I sigh near the end.
I feel a weight come over me as I realize I'm being pulled into a hug. I'm a little taken aback but quickly accept it. " I'm sure it's not the year Jaxx, perhaps just the people. Maybe you haven't found the one to help with that problem yet." We continued the hug for a second longer before breaking apart.
"Yeah thanks Connor... also sorry for kinda rambling on about the dumb music, I'm sure you weren't that interested." I chuckled a little near then end since he probably already knew all of the information I told him.
He is a literal walking computer Jaxx, cmon now!...
I just kinda followed Connor as he mulled around the house. He looked at the TV mumbling on about androids and other sport news, and some of Hanks pictures above the wall. We eventually wandered into the kitchen, Connor looked at the table as I cleaned up the spilt whisky on the floor.
As i cleaned it up I grabbed the gun off the floor and opened up the barrel, it showing only one bullet away from it firing. Another wave of concern and disappointment washed over me as I closed back up the gun.
Connor was holding a picture when I looked back over. I walked over to see whom it was of and my heart suddenly sank.
It was a picture of Hank's son: Cole Anderson. He wasn't that old when he died so it made much more tragic. Connor was looking at me as I took the photo away from him, I hoped he would say nothing.
Alas, my hopes didn't last long as we got locked in each other's gaze again, his eyes showing slight concern. I sighed," i-it was Hank's son, Cole. He died while having surgery after someone on red ice h-hit Hank's car." I clutched the photo, remembering how sad Hank sounded when he had told the story to me.
Connor was about to speak, but Hank came out of the bathroom, fully dressed. I shot Connor a look saying 'don't bring it up!' and his LED quickly flashed yellow and blue.
Hank smiled at us, I held the photo behind my back so Hank wouldn't see it. Sumo walked over to all of us," be a good boy Sumo, I won't be long." Hank patted his head and we all walked out to Hank's car.
I quickly placed down Cole's picture where Hank had other photos and went outside. The sky was darkening as we got into the car, starting to sprinkle as we got closer to the crime scene.
As we pulled up I realized the place was one of my worst nightmares...
the fucking Eden club.
