just the two of us (newt x reader)

dinner

alby explained everything to me, the maze, the rules, the grievers, everything. things started to make sense now.

after an a couple hours, everything had settled down and i was introduced to the majority of the boys. i took a liking to newt, thomas and minho very quickly as the four of us made our way to the kitchen for dinner. i hasn't realised how hungry i had been this whole time until we entered the kitchens and the aroma of food hit my nostrils and my stomach churned at the smells.

after collecting our food from the cook, frypan, the four of us sat at a table in the back corner. we all sat in silence for a while until i decided to break it.

"so how come i'm the only girl here? has there ever been any other girls? is it different for me because..."
i was cut off by thomas
"you sure do ask a lot of questions greenie"
"sorry", we all let out a small laugh but i proceeded.
"how come you call me greenie?"
this time newt answered
"well it's just a little nickname we give the newbie, this month that's you, it's only because we don't remember our names for the first day or so that's all"
"but i know my name, it's y/n"
"woah, you got that quick, well welcome y/n" newt spoke before anyone else could and you exchanged smiles with each other.

the silence returned. this time minho broke it.
"so y/n, you took a liking to any of us. i mean trapped in this place with all these handsome boys you gotta like of us slintheads, even if i am the best looking, i'll see past it if you don't say me"
we all laughed but i didn't know what to respond. i've only been here for a couple hours but i already feel a bond with these boys, it's weird, like i've known them my whole life.
"yes minho. it's you" i laughed sarcastically and the others joined in but i saw a hint of sadness behind newts eyes before he realised i was joking. maybe i had took a liking to one of them, as i found myself not able to take my eyes off the blonde boy who sat in front of me and thomas noticed this.

"oi greenie don't lie to us i see the way you're looking at newt right now"
"sorry i-i stare too much sometimes and don't call me greenie, my names y/n" obviously caught in my lie i look back over to newt who's staring straight back at me.

for a second we lock eyes. i feel butterflies swarm my stomach. i look away. i can't feel like this about a boy i've know for less then a day, could i?

after dinner i help frypan clean up all the plates before heading outside to join everyone else. because there's a new greenie, there's a bonfire tonight.
