the next morning, i woke up to the beautiful blonde boy lay beside me. not much was said after we got to his room last night but nothing needed to be said. everything felt just right.

a thought of what thomas said. today was the day i found out my job. despite what they all have said about becoming a runner, it's all i wanted to do. the maze was a place that didn't scare me yet intrigued me, unlike most the the other gladers. i have a feeling newt won't be to happy on my dream job but i know that i can take care of myself.

newt let out a small groan which let me know he was awake and when i turned to look at him his eyes were already fixed on mine. a small smile and newt was up and out the bed remembering that he was in charge of me today.
"oh clunk, y/n we need to get going now, we're late and alby's going to be wondering where we are if we don't get there soon" newt sounded serious so i followed him swiftly out the room and outside where alby was waiting for us

"big day today huh greenie" alby remarked, although i didn't feel the same. i was decided in my mind what i was going to put my effort into, the just didn't know what yet.
"apparently so yeh"
"do you have any jobs in mind, medjack? trackhoe? anything in particular?" alby questioned me but i knew he wouldn't like my response
"you won't like it but i'm set on being a runner alby, i know i'm a girl and that probably makes you think i'm not good enough but i really think i can do it"
newts head darted to me and i saw the worry that took over his face as he gave me a glance of confusion and it looked as if he was about to speak but alby spoke quicker than he could
"if that's what you want then so be it, we have to go through all the jobs first either way, just incase you take a liking to any of the other ones but i'll sure keep in mind about you being a runner, ok greenie?"
"ok, thanks alby" i glanced a smile over to him but i was shocked by his response and so was newt when he interrupted
"i don't know alby, it's not safe out there and with her being the only gir..." but alby cut him off
"newts going be like a mentor to you today, he's going to be taking you around all the jobs today to watch you and give feed back to me, then together we'll decide which job suits you best, alright?"
"ok sounds good to me" the thought that it was newt and alby decision alone scared me as newt clearly wasn't keen on the idea of me being a runner but i have to do what's best for me and try my hardest

"ok we'll start at the slicers then y/n" newt almost asked me like it was a question. and then my day of jobs had begun...
