[ elena's pov cuz i lied ;D ]
"This place is pretty big, how cool," I mutter, looking with envy at the coated mansion. Intricate details embedded along the walls, woven between pillars of white and gold, and spacious halls deck the place.
"Yeah, it is, the owner has a lot of money," one of the men reply, their glasses fogging up as they walk in quick pace.
"Uh, where are you going?"
"Hurry the fuck up, woman, otherwise the owner will assassinate us both," yells, running in front of me. Crowds walk past me, keeping me at the back as I curse, fearing the elusive owner who is a scary guy, it seems.
Eventually, I race to find a larger room than the others, a table sat in the middle of the room that fits in a lot of the people I'd seen before. The man from earlier sits next to a taller, dark-skinned man with long, shiny hair, pestering him until they fall quiet.
"Am I late?" I ask, cautious of their stares.
"No, but who are you, actually?" The glasses-guy asks.
"I'm Elena, I'm new."
"You do know where you are, right?"
"Don't be patronising, thanks. The North, right? I know what I'm doing, so mind your tone," I retort calmly, sitting an empty space at the head of the table.
"Move," the dark-skinned man calls sharply, his tone intimidating.
"Am I not allowed to sit here now, either?"
Everyone becomes quiet as the door opens and a tall, tanned-skin man enters, his face set in steely stoicism. He walks to my seat, staring at me silently. Normally, I'd curse at him for attempting to probably undermine me, but the ethereal beauty of the man with his light, azure eyes and tied brown hair makes me feel wary. Like the others, tattoos dot his body with piercings, but unlike them, he wears a suit, his eyebrows knitting sternly. I begin to touch my eye consciously, aware he can also see the one blind eye - which is something I usually don't care about.
"You don't want to sit here, or else the scary owner will assassinate you, or whatever," I drawl, getting up as I seethe at the glasses and dark-skinned man.
"Scary owner?" Despite his ice cold exterior, his voice is laced with honey, which is surprising, actually.
"Yeah, so scary and probably a complete jackass."
His lips upturn as he scoffs, dropping into the seat, glaring at me. "You mean me?"
My face flushes with heat as I realise what's happened as I pray for a mass destruction event to ruin me. "Uh-"
"Pray, tell me, who are you and why are you fucking up on the first day already?"
"I'm joining the North."
"Really?"
"Yeah. Really."
"I don't let anyone in. You need to be exceptional. Prove yourself to me."
"How?"
He beckons the glasses guy over to me, his eyes sparkling with amusement, "Rehan, beat our newcomer. Newcomer, if you beat him, you're in."
"Gabe, we don't do this-"
Easily, I slam my hand into his side, which he only just manages to duck before he throws a punch my way. Avoiding it narrowly, I keep trying to swipe at him as my eyes stay trained on Gabe, and his on mine.
"Gabe, this won't work-" Taking my chance, I pinch at his neck to find his nerve as he chokes up, dropping to the floor and scrambling away from me.
"I think I've proved myself worthy, don't you?" I question Gabe, my own smirk playing on my lips.
"Indeed. I look forward working with you, newcomer," he grins.
