I opened my eyes, looking around in awe at the crystal room I was in. I knew I was asleep, but that couldn’t keep me from admiring it. On each wall, there was a big, floor length mirror, not reflecting anything but acting more like a window. I approached one, intrigued as I watched my reflection copy me.
I giggled a bit, fascinated by the whole ordeal, my subconscious was really strange.
“Hello.” I jumped back, unprepared to see my reflection moving on it’s own, much less talking. In their background, it was a concrete room with a freshly painted ladder leading upstairs, cushioned chairs and fluffy carpet made up the room and fairy light lined the walls.
There were rows of bookshelves and the titles seemed to be in another language. My reflection seemed, amused by my reaction, her bluebell eye’s twinkling.
“Hello Marinette.” She gave a gentle smile.
“Who- who are you?”
“Don’t you recognize me? I’m you, well, not exactly, I’m you from another world. One where we are death, I wanted to come, collect your soul myself, I wanted to find out what we were like where you are, but you lived. Don’t get me wrong, I’m quite happy you survived, but at a cost.”
“What cost?” Her smile fell and grew tired.
“You need to wake up, it’s been long enough. What do you remember from that night?”
“Um, I was stabbed.” my hand flew to my side. “And, oh…” I remembered. “Chat was Akumatized by Hawkmoth.”
“I have no idea what you’re saying, I just knew it was bad.” She shook her head. “So my Aunt is causing trouble over there too, under a not-so-different alias no less.”
“Who?”
“My aunt, Tomoe, Skarlet Moth.”
“I -I don’t have an aunt.”
“Huh, my mom destroyed her connection to our family but at least I knew I had an aunt, are you sure?”
“Positive, we don’t really have any severed connections that I know of.” She nodded.
“Then I wonder who this Hawkmoth is.”
“You and everyone in Paris. When I was Ladybug I had to fight his Akumas daily, I don’t know what he wants with the miraculous but it can’t be good.”
“I didn’t follow that statement at all.”
“It’s alright, I didn’t follow what you meant by being death.”
“Fair.” She shrugged. I stood there, for a moment longer searching for the right words.
“Soo, I’m just going to take a look through the other three mirrors.”
“That seems smart. I wish you luck, I hope I won't have to see you again for a long time.” I nodded and strolled through the room.
In one mirror, I saw myself as an adult, living in a small apartment, making dinner with Adrien, working in unison that it was like he was my other half and right then we were a whole, just one person.
In the third mirror, I saw myself with beautiful wings grace in my back and a crown on my head, sobbing into my knees, clutching a wound in my side. Unlike mine which was a stab, hers was more of a slit. I bit my lip, my heart going out to her, but kept moving, there was one more mirror.
Through it, it was my world and I was watching myself. Like, my real body, lying in the middle of a king sized bed, the blankets pulled up to my shoulders. I watched the door as Chat strolled in, his costume white, matching the snow outside the window. Doctors trailed him in the room and rolled back the blankets.
They lifted up my shirt just enough to show the wound. They began unraveling the bandages and tinkering with my injury, making sure the stitches were alright, recleaning the wound, and bandaging it back up again.
I took a step back, heaving a sigh. “Alright Marinette, it’s time to wake up.”
