-An asteroid hits Mars knocking it out of our time / space continuum. NASA records the impact and then the planet simply disappears. Unbeknownst to anyone the asteroid was made up of frozen water seeding the barren landscape. Ten years later Mars suddenly appears back in our space but it is a very different place.
