Nesta vida peculiar, eu sempre procurei respostas. Nos livros bonitos enfileirados nas prateleiras gastas da escola. Nas longas missas de domingo do bispo José. Nas diversas ervas de cura e todos os rituais que eu pude ver desde menino muito novo, quando ainda não falava a língua de Monteiro Lobato nos contos de narizinho, que até hoje ocupam um lugar gostoso na minha memória. Ou até mesmo nas curvas de Uíre filha do pajé mais sábio e carinhosamente biruta desse mundo todo das quais comecei a reparar em nossos últimos banhos pelo rio pela mais pura e controvérsia curiosidade. Mas em todos esses lugares eu nunca pude encontrar nenhuma mera resposta convincente sequer a cerca de um pequeno menino de olhos grandes, nem índio nem branco, nem Yanomani nem burguês, nem padre nem pajé.

Makamisa, or "After Mass," is the completion of the unfinished novel of José Rizal, which was written in Tagalog and set in the late 19th-century Spanish colonial Philippines. The narrative centers on the fictional town of Tulig, where the Church, the Guardia Civil, and the principalia exploit and dominate the lives of the common people. Padre Agaton, a corrupt friar hiding dark secrets, wields immense influence over the town, manipulating both spiritual and material aspects of life. Capitan Nicasio, the brutal military commander, enforces obedience through fear and violence, while opportunistic figures like Kapitan Tibo and Don Roman perpetuate the oppressive colonial structure. Francisco, the son of Crisostomo Ibarra and raised under the guidance of Padre Florentino, emerges as the story's reluctant revolutionary. Instilled with the values of a true caballero, he grapples with balancing religious piety and civic duty while leading a movement for change. Francisco finds an ally in Marcela, a cultured intellectual from Manila, whose engagement with the brewing revolution in Tulig strengthens the resolve for liberation. Superstition, falsehoods, and defamation plague the town, highlighting the tools used to subjugate the people. The revolution culminates in fierce battles, the symbolic downfall of the Guardia Civil, and the exile of the corrupt Spaniards. Yet, victory remains bittersweet as Tulig confronts the cost of rebellion and the challenges of building a just society. Rizal's Makamisa combines satire, drama, and social critique, questioning religious hypocrisy, political oppression, social elitism, and cultural mediocrity. It reflects on whether true freedom and equality can be achieved in a society entrenched in colonial structures, offering a poignant exploration of national identity and the enduring struggle for justice.

Este livro, é a história de um pedagogo jesuíta, onde ele narra sua vida junto aos indígenas, nos primeiros anos da descoberta do Brasil. É uma narrativa atual! É uma história narrada pelo próprio jesuíta, o qual acostumamos chama-lo de padre. O padre narrou sua vida a um grupo de amigos, que se reunião todos os sábados para estudar a Bíblia. Paranormalidade? A paranormalidade é, por definição, algo impossível. "O Impossível" diz respeito a coisas que não se deve saber por meio dos sentidos. Durante muitos anos, o homem tem saído em busca do significado de acontecimentos impossíveis. O referido grupo de amigos já estava acostumado com o fenômeno classificado como impossível. Havia entre os elementos do grupo um médium, e, por meio deste, o padre ensinava como desenvolver o amor no coração. Aprender a amar a tudo e a todos de modo indistinto e incondicional é algo dificílimo. Sem querer fugir dos trabalhos pedagógicos, pedíamos ao padre que narrasse acontecimentos de sua ultima passagem aqui na Terra. As palavras do padre são joias raras e assim, sentimos na obrigação de semea-las para todos.
