Being homeschooled for 16 years of your life and having a overprotective mother has its perks. Actually, it doesn't. After Emily's father left when she was still in her mother's womb, her mom shut down all communication with the world. All of the house Windows were boarded up and Emily was forbidden to go a 'human' school or even look at a 'human' until she was 16. Emily's mother forced the thought of the James' family being witches into Emily's mind. She was taught that the human's were cruel. But now Emily is 16 and ready to explore the 'cruel human' world. Her mother accepts and allows her to go to a public school. The 'humans' are different than what Emily thought they would look like. They looked exactly like 'witches'. What Emily didn't know, is that she wasn't actually a witch. And when she becomes too attached to Leo Mathews the boy in all of her classes what happens to her she finds out she isn't a witch after all? What happens when she finds out not all people are bad?
