So in this au Natalia adopted Jason, again (Sad times for Batdad) she had to leave but before leaving she gave him a gift, that would save his life, literarily. SHe would be later killed by Anton Knight, and when Jason is in Ethiopia on the verge of death? That gift comes into use.
