Peeping Stories

My story is based on the painting Night Windows by Edward Hopper which is the cover I chose here. Take a look at the painting, a really good look, not a fleeting glance, explore the painting. I wrote this story for class as a writing prompt.

This is a dystopian short story inspired by the observation that it’s increasingly possible to lead an isolated life in which you need never venture outside your house. Part of me is tempted to expand it into a novel (or at least a novella) but the rest of me has decided not to bother, because it would almost certainly end up mirroring Ira Levin’s This Perfect Day, with isolation replacing drugs as the obstacle to freedom.

A criminal looks out the window of his room in a jailhouse. He watches. Engrossed. In love. Obsessed. She walks, unbothered, untroubled, untouchable.
