Phantomlimb Stories

As an Otherkin being who often experiences phantom wings, I want to be able to fly and be free again. This comes with some more negative thoughts, however, and this story explores how it affects me. I wrote this as a vent and a way of encouraging myself to keep on going, so it isn't really meant to be that good. I'm only posting it in case someone else can connect to it and be motivated to keep living. Cover art by me, tw for suicidal thoughts. Edit from the future: Since writing this I have realized the phantom limbs I felt on my back were not wings, but tentacles from being kin with Nightmare Sans. I am going to leave this up, however, in case anyone is able to connect to it. Edit #2: I do have phantom wings! They're feathered wings from being kin with a winged version of Ink Sans.

At first it was just little twitches. Over time it became more noticeable. Slowly Cas would start to fidget, then he would scratch at his shoulder, and move to scratch the air. He even apologized for hitting them sometimes, before getting a distant look and walking away. He never touched them. Finally, Dean snapped. He set to work making a new set of wings for Cas. In which Cas still feels his wings and finally stops feeling the phantom touch when Dean sets a new pair of wings in his hands.

"Patients who undergo an amputation, often feel sensation of where the missing limb was, as if it's still there. The symptom is called phantom limb. It's as if the body can't accept that a terrible trauma as occurred. The mind is trying to make the body complete again. Patients who experience phantom limb report many different sensations. But by the far the most common, is pain."
