After Melinda's party, Travis found herself in the very unusual position of being grounded. Not everyone agrees with her mother's reaction to what's happened, and some take it upon themselves to help her subvert the grounding. Also, what is up with these boys? No, seriously. Travis would like to know.

Introduced to New Glory's virtual world by two well-meaning girlfriends, Travis now has to balance her desire to explore this new space, her friendships, and finding out a boy likes her. Maybe there's more to New Glory than a distance education system and her mother's interactive career.

Travis starts hanging out with the other Sai Anto animator apprentices. While she enjoys finally having friends her own age, she's not sure how to navigate the group.

If anyone is interested, I'm looking for a group to read this book-club style (one person reading each narrator, with breaks to criticise the story and point out any mistakes I've missed, banter, diversions etc) on a video chat for youtube. Now on hiatus. I moved the story here from another site; and got no feedback at all. After a hundred chapters that becomes soul destroying. If people are interested, I'd love to finish it, but I can't keep doing this when my other pen name is getting a dozen votes per chapter easily and this doesn't even get read. But this is the second revision, with a lot of the action tightened up and some earlier scenes changed for continuity. So it might be worth reading these even if you've read the earlier revision. As I'm posting twice per week here, and I'm breaking the story up into larger chapters, it shouldn't take too long to catch up with what you've seen on the other site. I'm currently expecting to have the Box open in time for Halloween.

Kathy has another falling out with her mother and her only solution is to go and knock on the door of her estranged father. She just hopes his new wife won't be too upset at her showing up in the middle of the night.

Fifteen-year-old technical artist and animation apprentice Travis Ando grew up moving around a lot. Her mother is an interactive movie star. Her father is a rock musician. She completed primary and intermediate school through distance education and has never had a real friend. When her mother accepts a role at a studio in her home town, Travis hopes it will be a chance for the family to finally settle down and for her to get to be a normal girl. Will she get her wish?

But she can't change the fact she's Shiri's daughter any more than she can stop sketching cybernetic wearables. A new friend, a fellow animation apprentice, appears. Her bosses are happy with her work, as long as she keeps her deadlines and supplies them with enigmatic characters. Her nights, she wastes waiting for her not-boyfriend Nikola Holbach to give her his time of day, or night. Mostly she ends up at The Gentleman Loser, hanging at the bar and sketching the regulars, for practice and inspiration for the show. She knows Nikola is up to no good business deals, but he's so dreamy that that little detail isn't important enough to focus on. One night, Jen drowns her sorrow of Nikola's no show with too much vodka and soon fuzzy memories of Harlan Locke, a creepy dude who can't take no for an answer, begin to resurface. And what kind of information is stored on the disc she suspects fell out of his pockets?

Travis' parents arrive in New Glory, and the family is reunited. But no sooner are they back together than Travis finds herself her mother's keeper. Things still aren't running smoothly at her apprenticeship, but she's made a new friend. She's ready to make life in New Glory work for her and to stand apart from her parents.

As things heat up at home, Travis starts considering her options. Where will she finally land?
