Seventeen year old Bethany Keller has just gotten over a terrible break up with her exboyfriend Xander when her friends think she needs a new friend to help get over Xander. That's where Luke comes in. Eighteen year old Lucas Granger has his own dark past. His friend knows this and thinks he and Beth would make a great pair. And they do. They lean on eachother for support but maybe too much and if one of them cracks under the weight of their pasts the other will go down too.
