To the east of the City there is a new type of landscape of low marshes drifting to salt and leading to thick forests of oak and plane where a peculiar type of bramble has taken hold; its fruit glowing with a ghostly blue light. This place is called the Brightlands. When August, a young glower with the power to shock or channel electricity, causes the accidental death of a soldier, the City begins to unravel. Brightlands is the first book in a Science Fiction series set in a unique future London landscape. It's narrative structure resembles the interwoven character interactions and social exploration of Game of Thrones but instead employs fears of climate change and genetic engineering to reimagine the human desire for power and control in an alternative future.
