Long ago, lived a young mermaid whom was of most peculiar origins. For she was not originally born that way, having been a merman at birth. Yet, since childhood, she knew herself to be a woman. But she could not reveal her true identity, for many did not see people like she to be sane. This is her story, a retelling of the classic fairy tale The Little Mermaid.

A message to all my readers:
This story has many characters that are ignorant, bigoted and downright cruel to our main character. I wanted to have everyone understand that these actions are extreme examples of homophobia, and that, generally, it is far more subtle. For those that are closeted and are afraid to come out, I am here for you and I am sorry you live in an environment where you can't safely be yourself. Know that my heart is with you. If you need someone to talk to, here is a number to consider: 1-866-488-7386. This is the number for The Trevor Project, a group dedicated to helping young LGBTQ+ people. If there are people in your life who support you and you can trust, seek help. For my straight cisgender folk, please be an ally to your LGBTQ+ friends and family. Their love and gender is as valid as anyone else. In their time of need, be there for them and support them. Please enjoy my story and have a wonderful life.

"What if I'm not one?" I asked, my body wound tight with tension. "One what?" he asked, his voice soft and low. I hesitated. Was I ready? I wanted to tell him so badly. Wanted to scream it from the fucking rooftops. But there would be no going back if I allowed the words to spill out into the world. Telling myself I didn't need someone else's validation, that I knew myself well enough to know with absolute certainty that I was trans was all good and well in principle. But lying here underneath my bed, with my best friend's body pressed so close to mine I could feel his warm breath on my face, I felt those convictions slip through my fingers. Danny's rejection would break me. In a fundamental way. "One what?" he repeated the question, scooting so close to me the tip of his nose brushed mine. Dust motes danced around us, suspended in mid air, teetering on the brink of this momentous feeling wrapping itself around us. I squeezed my eyes shut, pushing down the rush of anxiety trying to drown me. His nose bumped mine again and his breath ghosted over my lips. I opened my eyes and stared unblinkingly into his. 'A girl', I wanted to say, even though I knew the words would taste sour in my mouth, 'what if I'm not a girl?' -------------------------------------- Sean and Danny have been next door neighbours and best friends since they were six years old. They've shared almost everything. From first kisses and crushes to heartbreak. But Sean has a secret. One he's never shared with his best friend - who's also the guy he's been in love with since he's known what love is. Sean is trans and struggling to come out. But it's Senior year and choices have to be made. Between college applications, uncovering a plan to hurt one of their classmates and his relationship with Danny, Sean is struggling with doing the right thing and graduating high school in one piece. ⭐to cross oceans for is PART I of Sean and Danny's story⭐ *TW: sexual assault and bullying *

"I was smoking on Shellfish Bridge, thinking about how I had completely screwed up my life, when an idea occurred to me; what if I jumped?" What happens when you make a suicidal jump off a bridge and everything goes completely wrong? Ask Tarabelle Johansson, an 18 year old girl that wanted to end her life, even though it had barely begun. Despite having to leave behind her older brother Ridge, Tara saw no good reason to stay alive much longer. Her mother has been deceased since she was nine and her father was a jobless drunk that had fun abusing Tara in every single way. The day Tara finally "quits" her job, she also decides to quit her life the easy way, by jumping off a bridge. But when she jumps off, nothing happens. She was supposed to die...only she didn't. The young woman was saved by the most unlikely creature possible, a mermaid. Instead of swimming Tara back to the surface to live on her life, the sea-girl decides to turn Tarabelle into a mermaid. Now, not only is Tara forced to live in an underwater kingdom full of human fish and has no idea how to adapt, but she also falls for the prince (soon to be king) Taiven. But the mermen is already engaged, and Tara finds out that his bride to be Adara is not what she appears. While all of this happens under sea, back on land Tarabelle's older brother Ridge, attempts to find out what exactly happened to her. He is convinced that his little sister would not commit suicide...or would she? This is the dazzling story about a girl who's life got turned upside down the day she wanted to die. This is the beginning of A Mermaid Tale.
