Maridessa rushed forward and caught her before she could hit the sea floor, joy and worry etched on her face. "Can she never regain her voice?" the princess asked, desperation in her voice.
"The only magical object powerful enough is the king's trident. Only then can magic be performed without payment. Yet I cannot show face at the castle. Farewell, my children." Alzisorin extended his arms towards the pair and a gentle current carried them up and away, depositing the two at the castle door. "Who goes there?" the palace guard asked sternly, glaring down at the two.
"Tis I, Princess Maridessa." said she, lowering her cloak to reveal her face.
The palace guard, however, did not move. "And who is thee, that lies so still at your feet?"
Princess Maridessa glanced down at the unconscious form of her sister. "Tis the Princess Antoinette. Now, I command you, raise the portcullis so that my sister and I may rest. We have journeyed long and far."
Yet, the palace guard made no attempts to raise it. "There is no Princess Antoinette. Tell me, who is that that lies unconscious?"
"As I have said, tis Princess Antoinette, formerly Prince Anton. Now I ask, once again, raise the portcullis or I will have you thrown in the dungeons." Maridessa pronounced, irritation biting her words. Silently, the portcullis was raised, and Maridessa, carrying her sister, strode in purposefully. She carefully laid her sister down upon her bed and had barely gone two steps into her own bedroom before she collapsed upon the bed, exhausted.
