Sometimes, when something precious is taken from them, a man loses his will to live. The only thing they have is revenge. And when a man is lost from a failed attempt at revenge, they become a hollow shell waiting for Death to reap their souls.

For some lucky people, they figure out that vengeance is, in fact, an idiot's game and stop while they still can. They might be depressed after this, but at least they won't become hollow shells of their former selves. They can still live happy lives.

Realization that the dead wouldn't like what they're doing may also be what stops a man from avenging them. Maybe they'd want the man to honor their memory by carrying out their final wish. And that's the case for a certain Jade Hoshino.
