(Cover art by me) "Did you know that male emperor penguins keep their eggs warm by balancing them on their feet?" he asked in the hopes of salvaging their little game, and possibly impressing Oswald a little. Oswald flicked his gaze to glare at him from the side, looking slightly furious, but his eyes were gleaming, telling Ed he'd definitely succeeded in being impressive. Nygma very obviously looked him up and down, mocking subtlety, before returning to eye contact. "Isn't that neat?" The Penguin turned to face him again. He stepped towards him, closing the space between them. Ed felt slightly nervous. "Nice to meet you sir," said Oswald. "Keep moving." It was as if he was daring him to stay. Ed hesitated, gazing into his eyes, such a pale and bright sea-green, with a hint of greyish-blue as well. He didn't want to make the wrong choice, and he knew if he did something wrong, Oswald might literally have him killed. "Will do," he said finally. He smiled, then slowly walked away. A jolt went through his body as his shoulder brushed against Oswald's when he passed him, and he had to resist the urge to grin even wider. Ed risked a glance back at Oswald, who very briefly looked over at him. Ed hurriedly turned away and sped up his already speedy pace to get away faster. He couldn't help a smile. He wondered if he would get to see Oswald again in the future. Probably not, right? ~~~~ In the twisted world of Gotham, two idiot supervillains struggle with their feelings for each other, while also having to deal with the certain hardships that block their paths to each other. In other words: these two dummies fall in love but are bad at it. Please enjoy. (I have entered this into the Clover Awards [on my reading list], so check that out if you like!)
