Amy's encounter with a mysterious man as a small child is dismissed as a symptom of an overactive imagination until a new job leads her into a hidden world of vampires and their hunters. Unlike the creatures in the books and films she's seen, Amy discovers vampires walk among us, regulated by a strict code enforced by the most powerful of their kind, a family called the Herskers to ensure their survival. Falling in love with a seemingly cruel and cold vampire, a rejected Amy returns to embrace her birthright in a desperate attempt to save him as he once saved her.
