Maggie's Song

"My name is Maggie and this is my song."

Twenty-two year old Mahogany Matthews wished for nothing more than being a famous singer. She grew up surrounded by music and was inspired by other artists like Anita Baker, Whitney Houston, TLC, Beyoncé Knowles, and more. Her dream, for a quick moment, seemed believable and worth fighting for. However, unlike her idols, she stumbled upon a devastating obstacle that could not be overcame. Her rich dark skin. After being declined an offer of a record deal because of her skin color, Mahogany, finds herself still in the industry but not in the front line she had hoped for. Becoming a ghost writer was not on her agenda. It wasn't even her dream. Her music was being taken and sung by someone more "desirable" and that hurt. But it was as close as she could get to the real deal and she had to take it.

Or not.

When the opportunity to rebrand herself comes along, she's stuck between taking the chance or holding off. Should she put herself out there and risk being judged or continue hiding in the shadows and allow her dreams to fumble? Both options were risky but it was left up to her.
