I am a published author and I have often thought my books are as much 'written' by the readers as myself. I am an avid reader and know a book is never read in the same way twice. It is a conversation between a whole crowd of people including the reader, characters and author. I think Wattpad is a great way of exploring the dynamic nature of literature. I want to serialize and work on my novel The Muse of Literature in this forum. I want to show how a novel is crafted, worked and reworked over the next month.
So what is The Muse of Literature about? The Muses of ancient Greece were goddesses of grace and skill who inspired artists. My Novel is narrated by the Muse of Literature, in her own words: "She was calling me a liar. I am a liar, and a woman, and a snake, and a dragon and a book and the eternal foreigner wrapped in secrets. I am literature; I am all of these things and more."
The muse of literature is looking for writers. She wants people not normally represented in literature to 'ink their ideas'. However the Muse of Literature may not be as benign as she seems. The muse of Dance; DanceyDancey and the muse of music; MuseMusic have their own reasons for disliking the Muse of Literature.
The muse of Literature picks a teenage English-Pakistani girl called Tarana for her patronage. Unfortunately this does not bode well for Tarana or anyone around her including her autistic brother Taveez and the Fun-Khan family who have helped to raise her. This is a book of time-traveling and continent-hopping, the Muse of Literature takes us to Ancient China and Moghul era Lahore to watch the courtesan Leaf dance. This novel deals with controversial topics such as the nature of faith, family, racism, Islamophobia and the controversy of Salman Rushdie's the Satanic verses in 1988.
The first read is for pleasure and I hope you come back for more. Please vote, add to your reading lists and comment so we can create a conversation and ink our ideas.
