So, when Slender recruited Vine he got the idea to introduce him to the whole group at once. (Which was a bad idea, but at the time he didn't know about Vine). Vine was of course confused since at the time he didn't speak English. Everyone else's reaction (minus Gale, Gale wasn't a cp yet) was "Baby boy. Must protect."

They still think that way about Vine.
