Ever since the night of that party, the air between Matt and Christina had changed. Questions and conversations became more personal, and they both found out just how much they enjoyed talking to the other. Today would be the second time since they met, they would be spending the day alone. River and Jade having begged to go to Echo's house with the promise of a baking day, Matt asked Chris to go golfing with him. Chris was slightly nervous only due to the way their friendship had changed, she didn't know what to expect from today.
Matt met her at Echo's place and transferred his clubs over to her truck, opting to let Christina drive today. Their drive was filled with laughter and light chatter until they arrived. Once Matt had checked them in, Christina looked nervous. "What's wrong?" He asked.
"Well, I may enjoy golf however, I'm not very good at it." She blushed.
"I think I can help you when you need it. I don't mind." Matt smirked at her.
Chris turned red but sat down on the passenger side of the cart as Matt loaded their clubs onto the back of the cart. Matt got in and drove them over to the first hole, "You can tee off first." Matt told her. Christina nodded and grabbed a tee and ball, along with her five-wood driver only to be stopped by Matt. "You should use your three wood on this hole." He told her, pulling the club from her bag and trading her.
Chris gave him a gentle smile and made her way to the white tee blocks. She put the tee in the ground and the ball balanced gently on top before taking a stance. Matt walked over and silently bent down adjusting her foot, chuckling as he stepped back. Christina glanced up and lined her shot, Matt encouraged her, telling her to just let her body follow the swing.
Christina swung a perfect shot and fired the ball down the fairway, her form was perfect. Matt could tell almost immediately she was better at this than she was admitting. He had a slight dilemma as they continued through the next three holes, whether he should call her on it or just enjoy getting to be close to her.
Matt walked up behind Christina on the fifth hole and slid his foot between hers, sliding them apart and he could feel her breath catch. He liked the reaction he got from her as he kept with the flirty touch, he grasped her hips and adjusted her carefully. "This hip should go forward on your backswing, then this one on your follow-through." He said softly in her ear and Christina nodded.
Matt let go of her and stepped back to watch. Her body flowed with the swing perfectly and Matt smirked. That made his decision, he would let the day play out as it will and just enjoy it. It was obvious that, if she is willing to play bad at golf to have him get close to her, that had to mean something.
Just as they got to their eighth hole, thunder cracked the sky. Matt and Chris stopped and waited as the sky opened up and began to rain. "They'll be sounding the alarm soon." Chris hummed.
"Let's head back and just rain check our last ten?" Matt offered.
Christina nodded and Matt drive them back toward the clubhouse just as the alarm began to sound across the course. The alarm was to let golfers know they were shutting the course down due to rain and lightning. Matt got them a rain date and was a gentleman by loading their clubs into the back of the truck.
"Echo and the kids are probably still baking and it's about lunchtime. Wanna just go get lunch?" Matt asked jumping in the passenger seat.
"This is starting to sound an awful lot like a date Mr. Sanders." Chris snickered raising her eyebrow. "But, let's do it. I just wanna run home and change if that's okay?" She asked, pulling away from the clubhouse.
"Or we run by a fast food place, grab lunch then go to your place or mine to eat?" Matt offered, ignoring her date comment.
"Sounds good." Chris smiled.
They drove around until they found a burger place downtown. They ordered their food and decided to go back to Chris's place. The two of them sat down at the kitchen island.
"There was one time, I was out with Bri and my ball landed off the fringe in the woods. Bri bet me I couldn't chip the ball from where it landed. I grabbed my four iron by accident but I'll be damned if it didn't work. I chipped it up between two pines and right back onto the fairway." Matt laughed.
"That's not possible. Four irons are near flat. You need a pitching wedge or a sand wedge for a shot like that." Christina scoffed, taking a moment to realize she fucked up.
Matt smirked. "You didn't have to fake being bad at golf just to get me to hold you, you know," Matt told her.
Chris turned red and looked down at her food. "I didn't want to push..." She chuckled nervously. "I didn't know how you felt and I didn't want to ruin what we have as friends either," Chris explained. "I figured I would get a sense of how you felt by doing that." She blushed.
"I like you, Christina. More than just friends, but honestly I'm kinda scared." Matt sighed.
"How come?" She asked.
"I didn't think you felt the same way. And it's not just me I have to think about. I got Riv and you have Jade..."
"I know... But. What made you think I didn't?" She asked softly.
"You... You are genuine and beautiful Chris. I'm used to women throwing themselves at me and I hate it. But you, you're different. You don't see M. Shadows. You see Matt." He explained.
Chris turned bright red. "To me, you're not M. Shadows. To me, you're just Matt Sanders. An amazing father and a kind, gentleman. A man who would drop everything for his son or the people he loves." Chris told him, not looking up as she picked at her food.
"Besides the guys, I haven't had anyone say something that nice to me without wanting anything in a very long time." Matt sighed, smiling softly.
"I like you Matt, but I'm not desperate, I promise. I don't want anything, I just wanted to make sure you knew how I see you." She said lifting her head and smiling at him. Chris ducked her head again and checked the time on her phone. "We uh, we should go pick up the kids," Chris said, diffusing the conversation.
She got up and went to head for the door but Matt caught her by the hand. "Wait." He told her.
Chris turned to look up at him confused but Matt's face was so close to hers she could feel her warm breath across her lips. Her breath caught and within seconds Matt's lips were on hers. Her entire body erupted in tingles as butterflies exploded inside of her. Matt felt his head spinning and the overwhelming need to bring her in closer.
Instead, Matt pulled away as the fear sunk into him. Christina as well felt the terror. The two backed away and not another word was spoken as they headed to Echo's to get the kids...
