Cassidy sat quietly at a hidden table, absentmindedly fingering the pages of her book. She watched these teenagers as they played pranks on unsuspecting people; tripping them, knocking their books out their hands, one guy's pants even fell down. But that might not had been them. They were supernatural, Cassidy just knew it. This wasn't the first time she saw them, but no one else seemed to ever notice them. Cassidy continued to study the strange group.
They were covered in tattoos, some more than others. There were two of them that seemed like the leaders. Cassidy watched them with great interest. While the rest of the group was loud and rambunctious, the two stood stiffly, their faces solemn. They didn't engage in the pranks; instead, they stood off to the side and constantly warned the others to be more subtle. Cassidy looked on in total admiration, taking in their features. One stood with dark hair and bright green eyes, his body tanned and toned. The other slightly shorter with golden hair and Persian blue eyes, his skin tanned and his body toned. They were a sight to behold.
Cassidy watched as their eyes carefully scanned the room. She didn't think anything of it until two beautiful pairs of eyes connected with hers, their faces etched with surprise and concern. Cassidy started and dropped her gaze to her book, her body tense. Oh god, they saw me. Did they see me? What am I talking about? Of fucking course, they saw me. She frantically thought. Cassidy contemplated just getting up and leaving but before she could, she felt a presence behind her chair. Dear god.
"Do you think she can really see us?" Cassidy heard one voice say. "I mean, she was looking right at us."
"Let's find out," was the pragmatic reply. Suddenly, Cassidy felt a hand grip her hair and pull. She hissed at the sharp pain but stopped herself from turning around, figuring they would leave her alone if they received no other reaction. Receiving no answer to their curiosities, they pulled her hair again. And again. And again.
"Ouch! Ok, cut it out!" Cassidy snapped. She quickly gathered up her belongings and left the library. She barely made it out the building when two figures appeared in front of her, blocking her path. She tried to step around them but they easily followed her movements.
"How can you see us?" The blonde-haired one demanded. Cassidy hesitated. She didn't know them from a can of paint and despite her assumptions of what they were, she also didn't know them.
Deciding to fall back on her natural sarcasm, Cassidy rolled her eyes. "You see I have this thing called eyesight. And before you ask, yes, I can hear you. I also have this thing called hearing. The wonders of the body."
The blonde one scoffed but the dark-haired one simply closed his eyes, tilting his head to the side in thought. Almost like he was listening to something. He smirked and opened his eyes, "No, you have something in you. No one can see us because to them, there's nothing to see. But you? You see us just fine. Your blood is singing, barely, but I can tell. What are you?"
Now that he said it, Cassidy began to notice the weird looks passersby were giving her. Because to them, I'm talking to air. Great. She lowered her voice, "Can we go somewhere else to talk? You know, where there's no people?"
Neither said anything but they both stepped aside. Cassidy made long strides to her old, rusty car and got in. Placing the keys in the ignition, she jumped when her doors unexpectedly opened, two bodies effortlessly getting in. The blonde sat in the back, looking very uncomfortable, whereas, the brunette slid into the passenger seat, looking very cozy.
There was a distinctive heat radiating from him and Cassidy instinctively relaxed as it reached her. Mentally shaking her head, Cassidy focused on leaving the library's parking lot. Instead of driving home, Cassidy drove until she came to the abandoned railroad tracks. Parking the car, she hopped out; they followed her and Cassidy watched as they appeared more solid.
