(Sophie POV)

I woke from her dreamless sleep at the same camp I was at before. I was un-gagged this time but I was still tied, and Keefe was still unconscious. "Don't even think about screaming." The man who tied me barked. "Where. Are. we?" I demanded. "Conner, you stay on guard." The man said, ignoring me. "Yes sir." Conner said. "Um hi?" Conner said, when everyone went into the small house to sleep. "You should sleep." Conner said, popping a berry in his mouth. "I'm not tired because SOMEBODY made me pass out." I snapped. "Sorry." Conner said, still eating berries. "Why don't you sleep instead?" I asked. Once he sleeps, I'll figure out a way to escape with keefe. I thought. "Nah. I'm on guard duty, remember?" He reminded me. I had the urge to tug an eyelash (nervous habit) but I couldn't because I was tied. I struggled to get out but it was tightly tied. Conner bit his lips. He looked at me then started cutting the ropes. Wait what? Once he was done, I ran a few feet away. "Don't worry." Conner whispered. "I won't chase you." He said. "Urm okayyy." I said, still thinking it's a trap. I quickly cut Keefe's rope and faced Conner. "Why are you setting us free?"

"I'm just not used to capturing people." Conner answered. I studied him carefully and lifted Keefe. "What do they want?" I asked. "They wanted the boy because we knew you would chase after him and we just need you because..."

"Because what?!" I asked. "We needed you to stay away from where you originally lived." Conner said. I froze. "Why..."

Conner squirmed.

"Because we knew you would do anything to save your home." Conner's father cackled. I jumped. "Wait. save our home?" I asked, confused. That's when it hit me. These guys weren't trying to take anything from me or Keefe. They were trying to keep us distracted from saving our homes. "Tie 'em up boys. And tie Conner too." The man spat.
