"SCHWANGERSCHAFT"

(PREGNANCY)

...

A month after their honeymoon in Paris, life had quietly returned to normal. Or at least... it was supposed to.

One evening, Sungjae was sitting at the dining table happily eating a large hamburger he had picked up on his way home. Sooyoung sat across from him reading something on her phone.

"Is it good?" she asked casually.

"Very," Sungjae said proudly.

She leaned forward slightly. "Can I try a bite?"

"Of course."

He lifted the burger and handed it toward her. But the moment the smell of the grilled meat reached her, Sooyoung's expression suddenly changed. Her face went pale.

"...Wait."

Sungjae froze. "What?"

She covered her mouth."Something's wrong—"

Before she could finish, she rushed out of the chair and ran straight to the bathroom. Sungjae jumped up immediately.

"Sooyoung?!"

Inside the bathroom, she was already leaning over the sink as her stomach twisted painfully. She started throwing up.

"Hey, hey—" Sungjae said anxiously as he rushed beside her, gently holding her hair back. Sooyoung kept coughing and vomiting while gripping the edge of the sink. Sungjae's heart started pounding.

"Oh no..."He rubbed her back gently while panic slowly crept into his voice."Are you okay? Did you eat something bad?"

Sooyoung shook her head weakly, still trying to catch her breath. But Sungjae's mind was already racing somewhere darker.

"...Sooyoung," he said quietly.

She looked up slightly. "What?"

His voice trembled a little. "...What if you're sick again?"

She immediately understood what he meant. Her leukemia. The thought alone made Sungjae's chest tighten with fear.

"No," she said softly. "It's probably just food—"

"We're going to the hospital."

"Sungjae—"

"Now." He helped her rinse her mouth before quickly grabbing his keys.

Not long later, they sat nervously in an examination room at the hospital. Sungjae was holding Sooyoung's hand tightly. Too tightly.

"Sungjae," she whispered. "You're crushing my fingers."

"Sorry."He loosened his grip but didn't let go.
