Amati Aubrey grumbled to himself, his fingers drumming the arm of his Mythril throne. The humans in the city were becoming more and more aware of the enchantments in the forest... No thanks to that hybrid were-wolf, Strom... it was a pain. Hell, he had humans coming into to “check” for abnormal creatures. He had to pardon half of them just so it wouldn't look suspicious.
At least that was keeping them at bay, if more returned then the ones that didn't they'd assume the ones who failed to come back had become some poor carnivore's dinner. The forest did have cougars, lion, and the like... it's just some of them weren't fully animalistic.
Nonetheless, he'd half to find some way to secure the forest. Amati looked to the vibrant green Aztec Urn on the table. Perhaps, a magic boost? Reaching his hand out, he summoned the Urn to him. Amati smiled evilly and released the top just to free an old Elf hag's soul from within. It tried to flee now that it was out but Amati grabbed it and ripped a piece of light off with his nails. The soul screamed in agony and Amati stuffed it back within the Urn.
He laughed, served the old hag right. Daring to challenge him and the Incubus for that matter. She was out of her mind. Returning the Urn to where it originally rested he swallowed the part of the soul Amati took. It tasted bitter but the more magic the better.
Now all he'd have to do is wait for the first Half Moon and seal the perimeter to the forest. The humans would walk past it, forget why they were there and return to the city. Their goals half accomplished.
--------------Back in the City--------------
Avitus Demetrius was tending the garden behind his house when the window on the floor above opened and his elder sister, Emilie Demetrius, popped her head through to smile down at him. “Hey!!! Brat, how you doing down there?!!”
He sighed and through the garden shovel up at her but she caught it before it could make contact, “I'm fine! Why are you home?”
Emilie snickered behind her hand, “That's a fine hello. I come home to see you and I get snubbed!”
Avitus threw his garden gloves on the cement block beside him and began heading for the back door to the house. “I'll be right there.”
When he entered the door he hear his sister's heavy thuds running down the oak wooden stairs three at a time. Avitus stood at the bottom stair waiting for her usual greeting. Sure enough, when she hit the third bottom step, Emilie jumped and glomped Avitus to the floor.
“Hello!”
Avitus smiled, “Hey, Onee-chan.”
Emilie pulled back and kissed him on the nose. Avitus loved his older sister, dearly. She was a trained mercenary and was almost never home nowadays. So this was a real treat. Her chestnut brown hair was a shade lighter than his and worn in a tight braid and her liquid blue eyes were sharp. She was always dressed in skin tight clothes and never went anywhere without her gun holster.
“So again, what brings you home so early? I thought the previous hit was supposed to take four months. It's only been two.”
Emilie laughed, “He was such a pussy! I found him and made quick work of it.”
Avitus cringed, why was she so okay with death?
Emilie looked contrite, “Sorry, I forgot you don't like that subject too well.”
Avitus shook his head, “It's fine.”
