ricky changes his position on the couch, startling nini out of her daze. they'd been watching movies for a few hours, straying away from any conversation, tension still high from their moment. or lack thereof.
when they were about to start another movie, they hear keys just outside the front door. soon after, ninis moms walk in, followed by jane and parker. jane gives nini a quick glare before pulling parker into the guest bedroom. nini rolls her eyes at her sisters immaturity.
she leans into ricky and whispers, "time to put on a show. follow my lead."
he looks down at her, as if to ask what she meant, only for her to answer his question. she moves closer to him, practically sitting on his lap, and settles into his side.
he reciprocates by wrapping an arm around her and pulling her closer, smiling down at her. dana and carol give them a look, then look at each other in shock. nini knows this is the point of no return.
"ricky! surprised to see you here," carol says, smiling at him.
"i invited him to the party, i hope that's ok. he's my date!" nini replies, smiling up at ricky.
"date?" dana asks, giving them a skeptical look.
ricky subconsciously rubs her shoulder with his thumb, something he used to do when they were friends.
carol breaks the awkward silence by exclaiming, "of course it's ok. glad to see you found your person nini," ricky can't tell if she's being serious or not, but still plays along.
once her moms leave the room, she practically jumps out of his arms and stands up from her position on the couch.
"get up. we have to decorate," she grabs his wrists and pulls him up, only for him to pull her back down. he smiles when he sees his attempt was successful. nini was on his lap, head resting on his chest. she groans and pushes her self up, rolling off of him and settling back into the couch.
she gives up on her attempts to try and get him up and goes to find the decorations on her own.
she's halfway through decorating the living room when she feels a presence next to her.
"what do you want," she asks.
"to help," he replies, wrapping an arm around her shoulder.
she pushes it off and continues hanging the banner from the arch in the entrance to the living room.
"my moms aren't in the room, we don't have to do anything"
"right," he sighs, placing his arm back by his side. she looks at him with an apologetic gaze, before wiping it off and focusing back on the task at hand.
