Phoenix
Once the asshole half my size that was trying to fight me ran off with his tail between his legs, I saw Ty pinning Ryder down. He was doing his best to throw punches at the side of his head, but the douche wouldn't relent.
At a rapid pace, I flew over to try and pry him off with anger flowing through my veins, but as I reached for him, I heard Scar shout at me in a desperately loud voice. "PHOENIX WATCH OUT!"
I turned my head towards her as she flew over in my direction with a panicked look on her face, but she wasn't looking at me...she was looking behind me. Before I could even process what was going on, she jumped behind my back, and that's when I heard a sound that made my blood run cold.
*Whack*
Scarlett's body hit the ground with a sickening thud as her face buried down into the grass. My heart stopped, and my eyes widened in fear, seeing her lay there not moving.
"Alex, what the fuck did you do, man?" Ty yelled out in shock.
"I...I didn't mean to hurt her. She jumped in the way," He drunkenly spat as his face turned a ghostly shade of white and the brick fell from his hand.
"Scar," I cried out, dropping to my knees beside her. "Baby...oh god."
Ryder ran over to her other side. "Scarlett, hey, get up," He gently placed his hand on her shoulder.
Screams of horror echoed the yard from Mia, Lily, and Destiny.
"Someone call 911 now!" Jackson shouted frantically.
My hand shook uncontrollably, reaching to help Ryder carefully roll her onto her back. I held the back of her head protectively the whole time.
"Oh my god, no," Ryder's breathing was becoming rapid as his swollen and beaten up face looked completely distraught.
Lily stood close by next to Luke. "Is she breathing?"
"Is she okay?" He asked right after, holding onto any form of hope that their worries would soon disappear.
I pressed my shaking fingers against her neck, instantly feeling a heartbeat and her breath against my arm. "She's breathing," I let out a sigh of relief. "Thank god...shit," I closed my eyes hard, trying to fight back the tears that were starting to form.
When I opened my eyes, I met Ryder's that probably look just the same as mine, if not worse. For a moment, we both felt slightly at ease until I slowly pulled my hand out from under Scarlett's head, seeing that it was covered in blood. "Fuck," I felt my stomach fly up into my throat, knowing that this wasn't good at all.
Ryder grabbed the sides of his head helplessly. "Shit, Scar, oh god...she's bleeding!"
My heart pounded against my chest as I started to panic.
"911 is on their way," Chase ran up, shouting.
Suddenly the psycho that did this to Scar spoke up. "No, no...please don't get the cops involved! It was an accident...fuck," He started to back up, pleading with us. That's when all I saw was red. I felt like I was breaking in two with Scarlett laying unconscious on the ground in front of me all because of this piece of shit. And now he's trying to run? Like fucking hell I would let that happen.
I stood up, urgently running at the guy before my hand grasped his collar tightly as I lifted him up. "You deserve to rot in prison for this. You did this to her! She was innocent...just look at her," I lashed out, grabbing his face hard to force him to look at her. "You sick fuck, she didn't do anything to you!" The stench of beer blew in my face as the guy's breathing picked up, and he scrambled under my hold on him.
