( James POV)
I contemplated whether I should go there or not. What if someone is playing a joke on me or even worse what if it's a trap?
The anxiety was eating me, with my leg bouncing up and down. I looked at the clock which said quarter to ten. I didn't have much time to decide. Also, I'm indecisive which adds to the problems.
Only last week, I suffered this problem when I had to choose between Pumpkin Spice Latte and White Chocolate Mocha from Starbucks. It literally took me 5 complete minutes to decide on the former.
But this time, the situation was completely different, it was 100x more intense. It could cost someone a life, and I wouldn't want that. Also I can't tell anyone about this.
I took a warm shower to clear out my thoughts and then decided it was the best for me not to go there. I grabbed my laptop and started my pending work.
After I was done, I stationed my laptop on the nightstand and rubbed my tired eyes. I looked at my wrist watch which displayed 11:41 pm.
I released a groan and grabbed my black jacket placed on the back of the chair, prepared to depart to the city fountain. I also took my gun with me, just in case. I decided to walk my way there, just to avoid unnecessary attention.
It probably wasn't the best decision, but I couldn't put any more lives at stake.
On reaching there, no one was in sight. I sighed and glanced at my watch which showed 11:58 pm, what a punctual man I am.
I went to sit on the nearby bench admiring the blazing dark sky with a torrent of lights. I bent forward putting my elbows on my knees and clasped my hands together.
It was now almost 12:30am and whoever that anonymous caller was, never arrived. I got up to leave when there was a sudden flash of light, which lasted for a second.
I ignored it and went back home, thinking how badly I was played with. I went straight to bed after coming back.
(Next morning)
I woke up a bit late and noticed I had 5 missed calls from my colleagues all timed this morning. I immediately took a shower and got ready for my day.
I opened the door when something caught my eyes. A baseball bat was lying on my porch. Was that for me or somebody accidentally left it there?
I looked around and picked up the bat and kept it aside and left as I was already running late.
Once I went in the office, I saw everything was chaotic in there."Good morning" I greeted.
"It's a bad morning, okay. Where were you?" Dave said, annoyed.
"I woke up late. What happened?"
"The evidence, which we found from Richard's house, I gave that to you right?" He questioned.
I nodded my head yes and then spoke
"Yeah, and I did keep them in the evidence room, safe and secure.""Well they're missing, all of them." Sophie said.
"That's not possible, you must not have properly checked there."
I pushed past them and walked into the room, to see evidences weren't where I kept them. I searched the other lockers as well to see if they were misplaced but, no, they were actually missing.
"We did check everywhere, nothing."
"I swear, I kept them in the locker safely after studying them and then locked it. How can someone steal from here?"
