(Dave's POV)
"Murderer strikes again?" were the headlines of the Times Gazette on the second page, and was probably already read by hundreds. This news would have made it to the front page, if it wasn't for the political issue going on in the city.
I slowly continued to sip on the tea I was drinking and started reading further.
"A young man, Richard Smith, 25 was murdered in Rosewood Hospital. Reports say he was rushed into ER before this brutal crime was committed. Smith suffered from various injuries but was hoping to be recovered.
Who's fault is it?? The hospital staff, who were supposed to save him? Hospitals are places where angels in the form of doctors save people from being captive to death.
Or should we consider the police officers carelessness, the reason of death of a person, who they were supposed to protect? Is Arona safe anymore?"
I closed the newspaper and placed it on the table. I don't know how this news was leaked, but I guess the media has their own ways.
I was sure the news would make it to the front page, if these murders continued and we couldn't find the killer. But I wouldn't let that happen.
The memories of the incident at the hospital started flooding my mind, even though I tried to ignore it.
I didn't want to think about the incident though, I just wanted to catch the killer and not give second thoughts about the topic if I was responsible for Richard's death somehow.
I started getting geared up for the day as I finished my tea, and glanced at my watch to see I was running late, again.
We had a lot of stuff to do today. We needed to search Richard's house and even his autopsy results were coming in today.
(Half an hour later)
On reaching the office, I saw a familiar figure, our team's Computer expert and more of a friend of mine waiting in the office, with his back facing me.
"I hope you are out of vacation phase." I said as I walked behind him, a smile making its way.
"Wow. Not even a hello, huh?" He said turning around, smirking.
"Hello then Mr. Preston. I hope you are out of your vacation phase because we need you to work here."
"Already started working on it. It might take a few hours though." He said in a serious tone.
"And Sophie, what about the autopsy reports that were supposed to come? We need to head to Richard's house." I asked looking in her direction.
"Yeah, they were delayed due to some reason."
"Alright then, Cooper stays here in case. I'll head to Richard's house with these two." I said pointing towards Sophie and James.
(At Richard's House)
I rang the doorbell and stood back waiting for someone to open up. Even though I had checked with my officers that no unknown person had entered the property, I was ironically greeted by an unfamiliar face.
"Yeah, who might you guys be?" The muscular man with blonde hair and black eyes said rudely.
"We're here for the investigation of the Richard's murder." I said as I showed him my ID.
"Oh, I'm sorry. Please come in, we were indeed waiting for you." He said a bit uncomfortably.
As we all walked in I started observing my surroundings.
The plain white walls embellished with various photographs and a few paintings . The well furnished wooden furniture which had specks of dust showcased multiple trophies. From the cream carpet lying on the floor to the medium sized chandelier hanging high, everything gave a homey feeling.
