Terran's POV
I left the house as soon as the night fell and I was sure that Zahara had finally fallen asleep. I had a lot to pick up, and I really want to go back as soon as I can.
I don't feel comfortable leaving Zahara alone and vulnerable in the house. She won't be able to protect herself if the worst happens.
But I also knew I needed to be careful. I needed to be safe so I can go back to her, bring her the medicine, and take care of her.
I quickly drove over to where I could remember I saw a drugstore. The last time we went out to get supplies, I had noticed it and had wondered if we should also get what medical supplies we can get--but at that moment, food was more of the priority and we still didn't know if we can find somewhere to get them so I had pushed the idea at the back of my mind.
Now that Zahara is sick with fever and couldn't even get up for about three days now, I realized just how much we needed them.
I went slower as I approached where I remembered the store to be, just to be careful. I was not familiar with the place and I'm not sure if there are some of them here.
It was very dark outside--there were no lights here, and the moon seems to have been covered by the dark clouds, so even with my eyes used to the dark now, I can barely see the surroundings. At the very least, the quiet engine of the car doesn't seem to be attracting any. It's also too quiet outside.
Hopefully since it's too dark in this area, most of the zombies had abandoned it.
I parked close to the drugstore and as I turned off the engine, I waited a few moments just to see if there were any movements or any noise outside. When a few moments passed and there was nothing, I prepared my gun and quietly got out of the car.
I only noticed then that there were several stores in this area. A drugstore, a few clothing stores, a fast food, and what seems to be a party store. I put that information aside for the moment and approached the drug store.
I checked my surroundings for a full minute first--and after concluding there wasn't anything in the area at least, I quickly rap at the glass wall of the store--making a loud enough sound to check if there was anything inside.
It was instantaneous.
Suddenly a body crashed into the glass wall I've tapped and I was face to face with one of them.
I was pretty sure it can't see me--but with my eyes adjusted to the darkness, I can.
It didn't calm down at once, it kept trying to go through the glass seemingly following the noise and not realizing it was making the noise now. Thankfully, the tempered glass was holding up.
I felt scared then, afraid that the noises will attract others nearby.
Deciding quickly, I noiselessly opened the glass doors--a few feet away from where it was pushing itself unto. Then I carefully aimed a bullet to its head. It was something I've observed in the days before I met Zahara. The head is their weak point. And it makes sense, as Zahara did mention the bacteria attacks the brain.
I pulled the trigger and hit its head in one shot. And then it was quiet again. Just to be sure, I went closer to it, gun still at the ready, just to make certain it won't be attacking me again, and I blanched when I saw it.
It-was a she, and seemingly an employee from this drugstore, but what makes it a sickening picture was the fact that it was pregnant.
It didn't seem like it would be moving again so I looked away. I didn't want the image to stay in my mind but, from experience, I knew this is probably going to be added to my nightmares.
