SPOILER WARNING
*CONTAINS EVENTS FROM THE MANGA*
Misuri peered outside her window to only see the blinding color of white. She'd hoped that Nanami would have made it back from his mission before the holidays. She understood that it had been rather hectic recently from all the special grade appearances but it didn't stop her from wishing she could spend more time with him. Though no matter how long it was she would wait for him to return just as she patiently waited for Nanami to answer to her feelings.
Before he left he had promised to give an honest answer to her feelings and for that moment she'd wait a lifetime.
Misuri heard a soft knock at her door and hurriedly got up to answer. When she opened her door she was surprised to see a familiar face. Yet not the one she was hoping for.
"Gojo?"
"Chiaki."
Misuri and Gojo had been close friends since they both knew Nanami. He'd introduced the two coincidently when Gojo came to his office. Ever since then he would come by at times to keep her company or to relay information from the higher ups."Why do you look so serious? It doesn't suit you." Misuri smiled and gestured for him to come inside. "Do you want some tea? Please don't tell me the higher ups sent you," she groaned and turned to retrieve some beverages.
"Chiaki. I have something to tell you." He stated with a serious tone. Seeing as his words usually held a playful touch she paused and turned back confused.
"Come on, what is it?" Gojo only held out a letter. Misuri carefully took it from his hand and examined it.
"It's from Nanami," though she couldn't visibly see his eyes she could tell he was being hesitant about meeting hers. "They thought it would be best for me to tell you..."The next words that came were unclear and clouded in Misuri's mind. Her whole world seemed to come to a sudden halt.
She couldn't hear anything.
Say anything.
See anything.
Feel anything."...Nanami is dead."
She fell to her knees and tightened her grip on the letter. She couldn't even bring herself to cry since she couldn't possibly believe he was gone. She would never get to hear his voice again or embrace him countless times before he'd push her away to work. Misuri simply couldn't process that this was reality.
"That letter was the last thing he wrote. And it's addressed to you."
She looked up with empty voids for eyes. Her usual bright emerald crystals seemed so dull and lifeless. She was about to speak but Gojo came forward and held a finger up to his lips. He then pointed down at the letter in her hands.
"Read it before you say anything."
Misuri absentmindedly nodded and opened the letter. She pulled out the note within and ran her fingers lovingly over the writing.
~
Dear Chiaki Misuri,
If you're reading this then it means I didn't come back as planned. I'll start by saying that I fear that this letter won't ease any of the anger you probably feel towards me. You asked that I stay by your side but I couldn't fulfill that duty. I must say I never understood why you decided to care so deeply for me as you did. You knew me better than I even knew myself. I will confess that I didn't believe I could ever return your feelings. At first, I tolerated your presence out of pure pity for the shy girl you were. Your confession had been so sudden and it was first thing you seemed to be set on. As a result, I allowed you to stay by me.
