(3rd P.O.V.)
It was the day after the training camp. The sky was gloomy as if it mourned the loss of (y/n)'s grandmother. (y/n) was standing in front of her grandmother's grave while the others were chatting a little far away. Ukai was finding (y/n) and when he found them, he walked up and placed a hand on their shoulder.
"You hanging in there pan-chan?"
"Mhm, just...reminiscing, I suppose. "
Ukai thought that it would be best to leave (y/n) alone with her thoughts. (y/n) bitterly smiled at the name of their grandmother on the tombstone.
"Grandma, if you were beside me...no...I know you are always with me...at least in my heart. "
(y/n) recalled all their memories together, the reason why she was able to push through the trials of life.
...
"Grandma, what am I going to do...I'm...so unfair. Why now...I still needed you...I'm so sorry."
Y/n got mad at herself. Instead of letting go of baggage, they stacked up. The guilt of everything she regretted kept coming, ideas of "what if"'s kept coming back to them. They knelt down to the grown as the pain was too heavy. Tears ran down their face as they held on to the grave of their grandmother.
"Grandma, how do you know who you love?"

It's been months since y/n had lost contact with many people. They focused on their studies and volleyball. People could see that they have changed quite a lot, others say that they might have experienced heartbreak, others thought it was about their grandma's death and would soon be okay.
But days became irrelevant and seemed to repeat.

Gym
Dorm
And repeat
It became like that ever since. People worried but didn't know how to approach her. No, it wasn't the pain of one's loss, it was not grief, but the guilt of regrets. They lost a loved one and lost two people they cherished most.
Nationals, however, was coming up. People did continue to help y/n with their practice but they never had a conversation unless it was needed. Y/n would go back to the dorms immediately. Their dorm-mate, Hano Isamu, tried to start a conversation with them every morning but only received very short replies.
"Morning y/n-san!"
"Morning"

Day and nights have passed and as Nationals came closer, y/n's training hours grew. Non-stop, they would receive, set, serve, and spike even by themselves. Time didn't matter, the practice did.
Everything needs to be perfect
Nationals finally came and the team was excited upon entering the gym. There would be a short ceremony before the games would start where they introduce the schools. The team was talking about how they could make a really good entrance but y/n was on the sides stretching.
"Y/n, we won't have a match soon so you could rest, we know you had been working hard."
"Okay."
Their team captain walked off to meet the rest of the members.
"Hey, y/n still is off..."
"I always thought we would see them cheerful, they were our ball of energy."
