The party

At two minutes to four o'clock the next day, you bust into Kakashi's office, slightly panting, your perfectly arranged hair already getting messy.

"Kakashi! It's time!", you say while scanning him up and down. You've been on his good side all day: not calling him sama even once because it annoys him when you're too formal - and you NEVER NOT call him sama, the further away he is from you in hierarchy, the easier it is to not have feelings for your boss. You've also made sure to intercept most reports and finish them for him so he can enjoy some reading in between meetings and allowed him to only eat ramen all day. And yet, you've still been on edge all day, afraid he'll call it off at the last minute. So far, he hasn't. To your surprise, he stands up, puts on the hokage hat and extends an arm for you to hold onto, like a gentleman. You curtsy like a lady, grab onto his arm and walk to the party.

You're wearing the dress Obito suggested, but one size larger than you would have needed, it was the only one left. Your shoulders are naked, a red leather waistband tightly wrapped around your waist, two long cuts from your legs to above your knees, very sheer, golden lining, white stockings up to above your knee, a little bit of naked thigh can be seen when you walk, a bit too loose around the chest, sleeves too long, a bit too long and you sometimes step on it. Still, you're confident this is your night. You excitedly squeeze Kakashi's hand every few seconds in anticipation and enthusiasm. He smiles kindly, but usually his smile is deceiving, because he enjoys taunting people a little too much.

"If I were you, I wouldn't worry at all about the impact this will have on your job", he says in a sweet voice, with a closed-eyes smile. You freeze and impossibly slow put your hands on your face to hide the look of terror. You blankly stare at the door and you can't form a full phrase from the shock that this has been a test that you've failed and now you're going to be fired

"The party...not..report...today...my job...sir...if...I...not", he puts his arm on your shoulder and you stop blabbering but remain frozen.

"I'm sorry, y/n. You make it irresistibly easy sometimes. It was a joke, let's go have some fun. I'm nervous too, I haven't been to a party...in a long time, but I'm sure it'll be great", he whispers. You look at him in awe, surprised at his willingness to make this work - you'd have expected him to refuse to have fun just to prove a point to Obito, but he put his ego aside. You let the little cruel joke slide, it's not your first rodeo, yet he still manages to get you. You smile back and make a mental note to make sure he'll have a good night even if your little plan doesn't work out.

The room is large, tall walls covered with red plush, fancy chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, crowded with people, music playing discreetly in the background, the atmosphere not too formal nor too casual. Kakashi takes off his hat and cloak, puts them on a couch that he'll claim for the night. Being alone with him outside of work feels wrong and unnatural, you're not sure what to do with your hands or what to say, so instead you scan the room looking for Obito but can't spot him anywhere.

"Champagne?", Kakashi asks.

"Yes, sir, right away", you say letting go of his hand and heading to the bar, when he catches your wrist and stops you.

"No. What I meant is would you like some?".
You realize that he is trying to say that the work dynamic doesn't apply now. You are not his assistant and he is not your boss, you are two people enjoying a party and he can be courteous.

"...y-yes?". As he turns, you can't help but watch him go, your eyes lingering for a little too long, his pants a little too tight, his hair charmingly messy, you unconsciously bite your lip when you realize it's still the hokage you're drooling over and you violently shake your head to cast away that naughty, impossible thought. Obito, Obito, focus on Obito and forget this thing. You're feeling a little too naked, a little over dressed and a lot of stressed.
