NEIGHBOUR
' Are you doing drugs or something? '

· • —– ٠ ✤ ٠ —– • ·

It had been a long morning after trying to get Jess ready for school, so Ashley got her mom to drop Jess off at her own house instead of school, as Jess suggested. It's quiet without having your best friend around at school, even if the hallways are filled with shouts and yells. Ashley walked through the hallway and simply ignored everyone as they ignored her as she got through the day.

Finally, when the lunch bell rang, Ashley went outside instead, and found a bench far away from people.
"I was drunk, Steve, I don't remember any of that!" She heard a familiar voice from around the corner. Ashley silently groaned as she realised she was about to hear drama, but realised how awkward it would be if she moved. She sat and tried to concentrate on her sandwich and hopefully they won't even see her.
"Then tell me." She heard someone else familiar say. Steve? She asked herself.
"Tell you what?"
"You love me." Ash widened her eyes as she saw someone yell his name. She pulled a face of disgust as she realised how sweaty the guy was and quickly changed to sympathy as she saw Steve run from around the corner.

A couple of days had past since that awkward encounter, and Ashley looked out her window. Nothing ever happens in Hawkins, she thought to herself. She looked over at her neighbours house, and saw Mrs Henderson yelling 'Mews' over and over again in the garden. Her son came out and guided her to the car, and as soon as she was out of sight, he bolted it back into the house, looked around and finally slammed the door. Ashley grabbed her denim coat, and walked over to the Henderson's.

She knocked on the door. No answer. Gave the doorbell a few rings. No answer.
"Hey, Dustin, I know you're in there." She shouted as quickly and quietly as she could, not wanting to cause a scene on the street. The door finally unlocked, but only to a small amount.
"What do you want?" He said, hurried.
"Is everything okay?" She asked, she tried to look in the house, but Dustin shielded it from her. Ashley pushed the door open, with Dustin still holding onto it as she walked in. "Are you doing drugs or something? And what is that smell? Smells like somethings rotting." She held her nose as the overwhelming smell caused her to feel nauseous.
"You need to go, right now." Dustin was serious.
"Dude, what is going on?" She said. She went to open his bedroom door, but Dustin jumped in front of it quickly.
"Fine, I'll let you know. Just help me catch him." She frowned, more confused than ever. Dustin laid food out on the floor, and pulled Ashley's arm back. Then, he opened the door, and the front door.
"Run!" He yelled. She followed him into the shed, and watched as a massive lizard creature walked out. Dustin ran towards it and hit it into the basement. He threw his hockey stick through the handles, and she watched with horror as the creature tried to escape, but finally gave up.
"What the hell was that?" Ashley asked.

After getting the full explanation on the way to Nancy's, Ashley realised a whole lot had been going on whilst she was totally oblivious.
"We have a code red, I repeat a code-" Dustin said for the tenth time.
"Obviously, they aren't going to pick up." Ashley rolled her eyes. She was getting a bit tired of the constant repetition. They finally arrived at the Wheeler's house. "Stay here." She said.
