"Eliana! Come down here please!" It was Ellie's mom. She always called her Eliana even though she asked hundreds of times to be called Ellie. Ellie put her book down and walked downstairs.
"Is dad home yet?" Ellie asked hopefully. Ellie's dad is the mayor of New York City and he's almost never home. He was away on business and hasn't been home for a couple of days.
"No sweetie. But do you remember when your father mentioned him arranging a courting?" Ellie's mother questioned. Ellie nodded her head slowly. "Well.... Meet Oscar Delancey!" She cheered. A boy that was probably a year or two older than Ellie came from around the corner. He seemed about 5'8" or 5'9", but no taller. He had a smug grin on his face as he looked Ellie up and down. Ellie shifted uncomfortably under his gaze.
Ellie could tell that her mother was happy with Oscar. "Um... Hi... I'm--"
"Eliana," he began, cutting Ellie off, "your mutha' told me." He tilted his big black bowler hat as he walked up the stairs to meet Ellie where she was. He took her hand and kissed the back of it. Ellie mentally gagged. She couldn't believe her parents thought that this guy could make her happy.
"Um, excuse me," Ellie began, "I want to talk to my mother for a moment. And, it's Ellie, not Eliana." With that Ellie stepped to the side and down the stairs. She quickly grabbed her mother's forearm and speed-walked to the kitchen.
"Isn't he great, Eliana?! He's such a gentleman!" Her mother beamed. Ellie scoffed.
"Mother, who picked him?! Where do you even find someone like that?!" Ellie whisper-yelled.
"Well, your father asked Mr. Pulitzer if he knew of anybody practical. Your father said that he recommended Oscar," she explained, "please, give him a chance for your father," she pleaded.
"How about we just tell him that I'm 'giving him a chance' but just keep our little secret and tell Oscar to get lost?" Ellie hoped. Ellie's mother gave her a look that said "really?" And she knew that she had to give Oscar a chance. Ellie rolled her eyes and pouted out of the kitchen. Ellie found Oscar sitting at the bottom of the stairs.
"Okay Oscar, soo, are we gonna do anything today?" Ellie asked. Oscar stood up.
"Well, actually, I have to work today," he began. Ellie thanked God in her head, "so I must be off," Oscar once again took Ellie's hand and kissed the back of it, then tilted his hat to Ellie's mother, and left.
How am I going to deal with him? Ellie sighed as she plopped herself down in a chair.
Okay first chapter! So sorry if it's bad, it's my first story soo.... Yea. I'm pretty sure I used "correct grammar" but just in case, I'm telling you right now that I didn't have enough time to double check it but I'll get to it.
So let me know what you think!
